Electromagnetic Waves: Wave Equation and Spectrum
This lecture covers the description of electromagnetic waves, the wave equations derived by Maxwell, the electromagnetic spectrum, and the characteristics of plane waves far from the source. It explains the vector fields involved in electromagnetic waves, the wave equations for electromagnetic waves, the relation between electric and magnetic fields, and the mathematical description of plane waves in 3D. Additionally, it discusses the approximation of spherical waves by plane waves far from the source and the large spectrum covered by electromagnetic waves, ranging from radio waves to gamma rays.
