This lecture discusses the research on small turbo machines operating at very high speeds, focusing on improving energy efficiency in various applications such as heat pumps, waste heat recovery, and fuel cells. The use of gas bearings to achieve high-speed rotation and the successful combination of micro turbines and compressors for decentralized electricity generation are highlighted. The technology developed has the potential to significantly impact the energy transition by increasing the performance of heat pumps and reducing energy consumption. The lecture also touches upon future applications of the technology in organic Rankine cycles and fuel cells, as well as the industrialization process and publication of research results at prestigious conferences.
