This lecture covers the importance of patterning techniques in creating functional electronic devices from organic semiconductor thin films, discussing the required feature sizes depending on the device and application. Various techniques such as additive patterning, subtractive patterning, stencil lithography, photolithography, imprint lithography, and different methods of patterning by lift-off and etching are explained. The lecture also explores screen printing, inkjet printing, and gravure printing as simple and effective large-area printing techniques for organic electronics, highlighting their limitations and process parameters. Additionally, the roll-to-roll process for large-scale, low-cost, high-throughput production of complex devices is presented.
