This lecture introduces Material Flow Analysis (MFA), a systematic assessment of material flows and stocks within a defined system. It covers the history of MFA, applications, purpose, methods, and indicators. The lecture also discusses Economy-Wide MFA, data sources, and the steps involved in conducting MFA. Various concepts such as material accumulation, geogenic and anthropogenic stocks, flows, and stocks are explained. Advantages and disadvantages of MFA, as well as additional monetary indicators like material productivity and intensity, are also discussed.
