This lecture introduces the fundamental concepts of spin dynamics and spintronics, focusing on coherent spin dynamics in a quantum-mechanical framework. Topics covered include the Rashba effect, topological insulators, classical and quantum mechanical spin dynamics, magnetic resonance, and quantum computing with spins. The course format includes formal lectures on conceptual building blocks of spintronics and discussions on recent research articles related to the field. The aim is to bridge the gap between fundamental concepts and cutting-edge research in spintronics.
