Communication channelA communication channel refers either to a physical transmission medium such as a wire, or to a logical connection over a multiplexed medium such as a radio channel in telecommunications and computer networking. A channel is used for information transfer of, for example, a digital bit stream, from one or several senders to one or several receivers. A channel has a certain capacity for transmitting information, often measured by its bandwidth in Hz or its data rate in bits per second.
2018 St. Louis Cardinals seasonThe 2018 St. Louis Cardinals season was the 137th for the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball (MLB), a franchise in St. Louis, Missouri. It was the 127th season for the Cardinals in the National League (NL), and their 13th at Busch Stadium III. Forbes ranked the Cardinals as the seventh-highest valued team of the 30 teams in 2017 for its 1.9billionvaluation(+6319 million revenue, and $40 million operating income. The Cardinals also had baseball's second-highest local television rating, averaging 7. Kashima Shinden Jikishinkage-ryū, often referred to simply as Jikishinkage-ryū or Kashima Shinden, is a traditional school (koryū) of the Japanese martial art of swordsmanship (kenjutsu). The school was founded in the mid-16th century, based upon older styles of swordsmanship, and is one of the few ancient Japanese martial arts schools still existing today. Kashima Shinden Jikishinkage-ryū can be translated as the "divinely transmitted, honest reflection of the heart, school of Kashima".
Set-builder notationIn set theory and its applications to logic, mathematics, and computer science, set-builder notation is a mathematical notation for describing a set by enumerating its elements, or stating the properties that its members must satisfy. Defining sets by properties is also known as set comprehension, set abstraction or as defining a set's intension. Set (mathematics)#Roster notation A set can be described directly by enumerating all of its elements between curly brackets, as in the following two examples: is the set containing the four numbers 3, 7, 15, and 31, and nothing else.
Dragon Flower Church of the Heart-bound Heavenly WayThe Holy Dragon Flower Church of the Heart-bound Heavenly Way (一心天道龙华圣教会 Yīxīn tiāndào lónghuá shèng jiàohuì), also known simply as Yixin Tiandao (一心天道 "Heart-bound Heavenly Way"), Yizhendao (一真道 "Way of the One Truth") or the Holy Church of the One Truth (一真圣教会 Yīzhēn shèng jiàohuì), or Changmaodao (长毛道 "Way of the Long Hair"), is a Chinese folk religious sect part of the Xiantiandao tradition. The first hall of the religion (一心堂 yīxīn táng, "one-heart hall") was founded in 1913 by Ma Shiwei (马士伟) in the Zouping County of Shandong.
Cutting stock problemIn operations research, the cutting-stock problem is the problem of cutting standard-sized pieces of stock material, such as paper rolls or sheet metal, into pieces of specified sizes while minimizing material wasted. It is an optimization problem in mathematics that arises from applications in industry. In terms of computational complexity, the problem is an NP-hard problem reducible to the knapsack problem. The problem can be formulated as an integer linear programming problem.
Inequalities in information theoryInequalities are very important in the study of information theory. There are a number of different contexts in which these inequalities appear. Entropic vector Consider a tuple of finitely (or at most countably) supported random variables on the same probability space. There are 2n subsets, for which (joint) entropies can be computed. For example, when n = 2, we may consider the entropies and .
Isoko HatanoIsoko Hatano (Japanese: 波多野 勤子 Hatano Isoko; – ) was a Japanese developmental psychologist and writer. Her 1951 book, Shōnenki, was a national bestseller that was adapted into a feature film. She was awarded the Order of the Precious Crown in 1976. Hatano was born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1905. In 1927, she completed a degree in English from Japan Women's University. From 1928 to 1937, she studied child psychology at the Child Research Institute at Japan Women's University.
Robert KlippelRobert Klippel AO (19 June 1920 19 June 2001) was an Australian constructivist sculptor and teacher. He is often described in contemporary art literature as Australia's greatest sculptor. Throughout his career he produced some 1,300 pieces of sculpture and approximately 5,000 drawings. Klippel was born in Potts Point, Sydney on 19 June 1920. At the age of six, he made his first model ship after being taken on a ferry ride on Sydney Harbour. Model making became a passion. He was educated at Sydney Grammar School.
Set (mathematics)A set is the mathematical model for a collection of different things; a set contains elements or members, which can be mathematical objects of any kind: numbers, symbols, points in space, lines, other geometrical shapes, variables, or even other sets. The set with no element is the empty set; a set with a single element is a singleton. A set may have a finite number of elements or be an infinite set. Two sets are equal if they have precisely the same elements. Sets are ubiquitous in modern mathematics.
