Introduction to structural mechanics; bending, shear and torsion in structures; analysis of stress and strain; deflections of beams; principle of virtual work; composite sections; plastic analysis; introduction to stability
This course deals with the nonlinear modelling and analysis of structures when subjected to monotonic, cyclic, and dynamic loadings, focusing in particular on the seismic response of structures. It introduces solution methods for nonlinear static and dynamic problems.
Quantitative decision making based on life-cycle considerations that incorporate direct losses, seismic risk assessment, and collapse. Seismic hazard analysis, response simulation, damage and loss estimation, collapse prediction. Case studies.
