Abstract

La croissance vertigineuse des vingt dernières années a bouleversé la notion même de la ville, et l'étalement territorial des zones urbanisées a conduit à une modification importante du mode de vie et de la mobilité de leurs habitants. Face à des transformations aussi profondes et rapides, la qualification contemporaine de l'urbanité semble de plus en plus difficile à cerner de manière cohérente. La ville est partout, la ville est nulle part.; les notions de centralité, d'identité historique, de faubourg, de périphérie, de campagne, de nature, de densité tendent à se diluer dans une solution complexe aux propriétés encore indistinctes. Le questionnement de cette ville contemporaine évasive constitue l'un des axes principaux de préoccupation scientifique du Laboratoire d'Architecture et de Mobilité Urbaine. Guidés par des préoccupations architecturales, environnementales, politiques, sociales et économiques nous porterons plus particulièrement notre regard sur les relations complexes qui s'établissent entre le développement urbain et les modifications des modes de vie contemporains dans des contextes spécifiques. La ville de Casablanca, que nous avons choisi d'étudier cette année, offre un environnement urbain et architectural d'une très grande richesse pour l'exploration de la condition contemporaine. La ville a été un laboratoire historique de la croissance urbaine rapide dès les années 1930 et a été confrontée de manière précoce à des situations aujourd 'hui omniprésentes dans les grandes métropoles, étalement, pression foncière, ségrégation sociale ...
