Michel MerletMichel Merlet (born 26 May 1939) is a French composer and pedagogue. Born in Saint-Brieuc, Merlet studied music at the Conservatoire de Paris, where his teacher was Tony Aubin. There he won prizes for harpsichord, chamber music, counterpoint, fugue, musical composition and musical analysis (in Olivier Messiaen's class). From 1978, he taught fugue there, succeeding Yvonne Desportes at this post. He won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1966.

The Obusier de 155 mm C mle 1881 was one of a series of heavy artillery pieces designed by Colonel Charles Ragon de Bange. On 11 May 1874 three de Bange heavy cannons (120 mm, 155 mm, 240 mm) and two mortars (220 mm, 270 mm) were ordered by the French Army. The mle 1881 was advanced for its time due to being built completely of steel instead of a steel liner and cast iron reinforcing hoops of the previous Canon de 240 mm C mle 1870-87.
Le LocleLe Locle (lə lɔkl; Luggli) is a municipality in the Canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. It is situated in the Jura Mountains, a few kilometers from the city of La Chaux-de-Fonds. It is the third smallest city in Switzerland (in Switzerland a place needs more than 10,000 inhabitants to be considered a city). Le Locle is known as a center of Swiss watchmaking, even cited as the birthplace of the industry, with roots dating back to the 1600s.

Le GlèbeLe Glèbe (lə ɡlɛb; Le Gllèbe) is a former municipality in the district of Sarine in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. It was created on 1 January 2003 by the union of Estavayer-le-Gibloux, Rueyres-Saint-Laurent, Villarlod, and Villarsel-le-Gibloux. On 1 January 2016 it merged with Corpataux-Magnedens, Farvagny, Rossens and Vuisternens-en-Ogoz to form the new municipality of Gibloux. Le Glèbe had an area, , of . Of this area, or 72.3% is used for agricultural purposes, while or 18.9% is forested.
Anne-Christine HladkyAnne-Christine Hladky-Hennion (born 1965) is a French researcher in acoustic metamaterials. She is a director of research for the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), and scientific deputy director of the CNRS Institute for Engineering and Systems Sciences (INSIS). Hladky is originally from Lille, where she was born in 1965. After earning a diploma in 1987 from the Institut supérieur de l'électronique et du numérique in Lille, she continued her education at the Lille University of Science and Technology, where she earned a doctorate in 1990, in materials science.
Estavayer-le-LacEstavayer-le-Lac (ɛstavaje l(ə) lak; Estavalyér-le-Lèc, locally Thavalyi-le-Lé θavaˈʎi lə ˈle) is a former Swiss municipality of the canton of Fribourg, situated on the south shore of Lake Neuchâtel. Estavayer-le-Lac is located between Yverdon and Bern. It is the capital of the district of Broye. The municipality of Font merged on 1 January 2012 into the municipality of Estavayer-le-Lac. On 1 January 2017 Bussy, Morens, Murist, Rueyres-les-Prés, Vernay and Vuissens merged into the new municipality of Estavayer.

Although the majority of combatants had heavy field artillery prior to the outbreak of the First World War, none had adequate numbers of heavy guns in service, nor had they foreseen the growing importance of heavy artillery once the Western Front stagnated and trench warfare set in. Since aircraft of the period were not yet capable of carrying large diameter bombs the burden of delivering heavy firepower fell on the artillery.
Charles Sorel, sieur de SouvignyCharles Sorel, sieur de Souvigny (c. 1602 – 7 March 1674) was a French novelist and general writer. Very little is known of his life except that in 1635 he was historiographer of France. He wrote on science, history and religion, but is only remembered for his novels. He tried to destroy the vogue for the pastoral romance by writing a novel of adventure, the Histoire comique de Francion (first edition in seven volumes, 1623; second edition in twelve volumes, 1633).
