Abstract

We describe FROG, an integrated environment for authoring and running collaborative learning scenarios, called Orchestration Graphs. We describe the pedagogical background and the technical architecture, and present a case study of a teacher using FROG to experiment with a variation of a jigsaw script.

Problem-based learning

Problem-based learning (PBL) is a student-centered pedagogy in which students learn about a subject through the experience of solving an open-ended problem found in trigger material. The PBL process does not focus on problem solving with a defined solution, but it allows for the development of other desirable skills and attributes. This includes knowledge acquisition, enhanced group collaboration and communication. The PBL process was developed for medical education and has since been broadened in applications for other programs of learning.

Pedagogy of the Oppressed (Pedagogia do Oprimido) is a book by Brazilian educator Paulo Freire, written in Portuguese between 1967 and 1968, but published first in Spanish in 1968.
