Abstract

The objective of this scientific paper is to present the m3 metro project, in particular the Casernes-Blécherette section. The article is a summary of the final project development based on the technical report [1]. It includes the geological and hydrogeological context, the general concept of the structures, the execution methods, the inventory of constraints, the dimensioning of the structures and its elements, the typical excavation profiles and the normal profiles of the tunnels, the excavation and support profiles and the normal profiles of the stations, as well as the installation and logistics of the construction site. The urban context and the requirement of the client to maintain at least one traffic lane in each direction impose a top-down construction of the stations: This method consists in retaining walls in secant piles and a cover slab before excavation of the station. The tunnel will be built as a cutand- cover, near the stations where the ground cover is not sufficient, and as an underground tunnel.

Construction
Construction is a general term meaning the art and science to form objects, systems, or organizations, and comes from Latin constructio (from com- "together" and struere "to pile up") and Old French construction. To construct is the verb: the act of building, and the noun is construction: how something is built, the nature of its structure. In its most widely used context, construction covers the processes involved in delivering buildings, infrastructure, industrial facilities, and associated activities through to the end of their life.
Urban history
Urban history is a field of history that examines the historical nature of cities and towns, and the process of urbanization. The approach is often multidisciplinary, crossing boundaries into fields like social history, architectural history, urban sociology, urban geography, business history, and archaeology. Urbanization and industrialization were popular themes for 20th-century historians, often tied to an implicit model of modernization, or the transformation of rural traditional societies.
Construction engineering
Construction engineering, also known as construction operations, is a professional subdiscipline of civil engineering that deals with the designing, planning, construction, and operations management of infrastructure such as roadways, tunnels, bridges, airports, railroads, facilities, buildings, dams, utilities and other projects. Construction engineers learn some of the design aspects similar to civil engineers as well as project management aspects.
