Ion-exchange resinAn ion-exchange resin or ion-exchange polymer is a resin or polymer that acts as a medium for ion exchange. It is an insoluble matrix (or support structure) normally in the form of small (0.25–1.43 mm radius) microbeads, usually white or yellowish, fabricated from an organic polymer substrate. The beads are typically porous (with a specific size distribution that will affect its properties), providing a large surface area on and inside them where the trapping of ions occurs along with the accompanying release of other ions, and thus the process is called ion exchange.
Hydrogen internal combustion engine vehicleA hydrogen internal combustion engine vehicle (HICEV) is a type of hydrogen vehicle using an internal combustion engine. Hydrogen internal combustion engine vehicles are different from hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (which use electrochemical use of hydrogen rather than combustion). ElectrodeionizationElectrodeionization (EDI) is a water treatment technology that uses DC power, ion exchange membranes, and ion exchange resin to deionize water. EDI is usually a polishing treatment for reverse osmosis (RO). EDI differs from other RO polishing technologies, such as chemically regenerated mixed beds, in that it is continuous and requires no chemical regeneration. EDI is sometimes referred to as "continuous electrodeionization" (CEDI) since the electric current regenerates the ion exchange resin mass continuously.
