Millimeter wave (mmWave) frequencies has become a research area of interest in recent years because of providing broad available bandwidth and thus higher data rates. Wideband mmWave antenna is one of the important development areas in wireless communication systems. Bowtie patch is a low profile planar antenna with wideband characteristics. This contribution presents a classic design method for bowtie patch antenna in mmWave frequencies for the purpose of achieving maximum possible bandwidth and compactness, based on the combination of patch antenna and bowtie antenna theories. The proposed method is illustrated with the design of a dual polarized antenna element that can be a good candidate for mmWave wireless technologies such as 5G, radar and satellite communications. The design performance has been compared with the recent similar literary works and shows advantageous in terms of bandwidth and size.
