The Central Environmental Laboratory (GR-CEL) at EPFL conducts cutting-edge research in environmental analytical chemistry and molecular biology. Led by Florian Breider, the lab focuses on microplastic pollution in aquatic and terrestrial environments, the detection of organic and inorganic pollutants, and the role of microorganisms in natural and engineered settings. Ongoing projects include MicroSed, MicroFish, TirInFish, and Sea Plastic 2022. The lab collaborates with various partners and provides services, teaching, and technical assistance to research groups associated with the Environmental Engineering Institute and other EPFL schools.
