The Materials Laboratory for Renewable Energy (LMER) at EPFL focuses on research related to energy storage materials, hydrogen, hydrides, CO2 reduction, hydrocarbons, and catalysis. LMER conducts in-depth studies on the synthesis and characterization of materials for energy storage, with a particular emphasis on complex borohydrides. The lab investigates the interaction of hydrogen with metals, intermetallic compounds, and carbon nanostructures, aiming to increase the energy density of advanced batteries. LMER is actively involved in international projects such as the International Energy Agency Task 32, which addresses hydrogen-based energy storage by developing reversible hydrogen storage materials. The lab's research activities are published in reputable journals and presented at various conferences worldwide.
