The Distributed Information Systems Laboratory at EPFL focuses on producing reliable information from vast amounts of data available on the Internet. They develop methods to turn unstructured, heterogeneous, and untrusted data into meaningful, reliable information for tasks such as data integration, information retrieval, and trust assessment. Their research includes AI applications for online child safety, hate speech detection, incident identification in images, and emotion recognition in text and images. The lab collaborates with industry partners on projects like risk assessment for new technologies, fragrance and taste creation, news article evaluation, and AI-driven classifier building. They also contribute to the Media Observatory Initiative, aiming to enhance the credibility of digital information.
