The ICT for Sustainable Manufacturing Group at EPFL focuses on developing methodologies and tools to support sustainable manufacturing practices. They aim to optimize the life-cycle of manufacturing systems, products, and services by implementing strategies such as Closed Loop Lifecycle Management (CL2M) and Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM). The group also works on Digital Twins (DT) and Cognitive Twins (CT) to enable real-time communication between physical and cyber spaces, supporting the integration of IoT technologies. Their research addresses the global challenges of sustainable manufacturing, emphasizing the importance of performance, quality, safety, and lifecycle considerations.
