Alireza Karimi

Alireza Karimi received his B. Sc. and M. Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering in 1987 and 1990, respectively, from Amir Kabir University (Tehran Polytechnic). Then he received his DEA and Ph. D. degrees both on Automatic Control from Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (INPG) in 1994 and 1997, respectively. He was Assistant Professor at Electrical Engineering Department of Sharif University of Technology in Teheran from 1998 to 2000. Then he joined Automatic Laboratory of Swiss Federal Institute of Technology at Lausanne, Switzerland. He is currently Professor of Automatic Control and the head of "Data-Driven Modelling and Control" group. His research interests include data-driven controller tuning and robust control with application to mechatronic systems and electrical grids.

Conseiller communal durant 2 mandats de 5 ans de 2006 à 2016. 1987 : Chimiste de l'Université de Bâle (CH). 1988 : Post-grade informatique de l'Ecole d'Ingénieurs de Bâle. 1989 : Stage industriel chez ABB à Baden (CH). 1990-1993 : Thesè EPFL 1994-1995 : Postdoc au Japon (Tokyo). 1996-2000 : Chercheur à l'EPFL, Dpt. Chimie, responsable de groupe. 1998-2000 : Master en Energy Technology, EPFL. 2000 : Cofondateur de HTceramix SA (EPFL spin-off), à Yverdon (actuellement 12 employés). La maison mère SOLIDpower en Italie, qui a acheté notre technologie en 2007, emploie 250 personnes et a levé 70 MCHF. 2000-2012 : 1er Assistant et chargé de cours en STI-IGM. Promu à MER en 2008. 2013-présent: MER responsable d'unité. Output : 135 publications, 120 papiers de conférence, 15 théses de doctorat, 4 thèses en cours, 37 thèses de master. Michel Bierlaire

Born in 1967, Michel Bierlaire holds a PhD in Mathematical Sciences from the Facultés Universitaires Notre-Dame de la Paix, Namur, Belgium (University of Namur). Between 1995 and 1998, he was research associate and project manager at the Intelligent Transportation Systems Program of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, Ma, USA). Between 1998 and 2006, he was a junior faculty in the Operations Research group ROSO within the Institute of Mathematics at EPFL. In 2006, he was appointed associate professor in the School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering at EPFL, where he became the director of the Transport and Mobility laboratory. Since 2009, he is the director of TraCE, the Transportation Center. From 2009 to 2017, he was the director of Doctoral Program in Civil and Environmental Engineering at EPFL. In 2012, he was appointed full professor at EPFL. Since September 2017, he is the head of the Civil Engineering Institute at EPFL. His main expertise is in the design, development and applications of models and algorithms for the design, analysis and management of transportation systems. Namely, he has been active in demand modeling (discrete choice models, estimation of origin-destination matrices), operations research (scheduling, assignment, etc.) and Dynamic Traffic Management Systems. As of August 2021, he has published 136 papers in international journals, 4 books, 41 book chapters, 193 articles in conference proceedings, 182 technical reports, and has given 195 scientific seminars. His Google Scholar h-index is 68. He is the founder, organizer and lecturer of the EPFL Advanced Continuing Education Course "Discrete Choice Analysis: Predicting Demand and Market Shares". He is the founder of hEART: the European Association for Research in Transportation. He was the founding Editor-in-Chief of the EURO Journal on Transportation and Logistics, from 2011 to 2019. He is an Associate Editor of Operations Research. He is the editor of two special issues for the journal Transportation Research Part C. He has been member of the Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) of Transportation Research Part B since 1995, of Transportation Research Part C since January 1, 2006.

Paul Joseph Dyson

Paul Dyson rejoignit l’EPFL en 2002 à la tête du Laboratoire de chimie organométallique et médicinale de l’Institut des sciences et ingénierie chimiques, dont il en assuma ensuite la direction entre 2008 et 2016. Le prof. Dyson a été récompensé par de nombreux prix dont le Prix Werner de la Société Suisse de Chimie en 2004, le Prix pour les réalisations exceptionnelles en chimie bio organométallique en 2010, la Médaille du Centenaire de la naissance de Luigi Sacconi (2011) de la Société Italienne de Chimie, le Prix de Chimie bio-inorganique de la Royal Society of Chemistry en 2015, le Prix européen pour une chimie durable de la Société Européenne de Chimie en 2018 et le Prix pour la chimie verte de la Royal Society of Chemistry en 2020. Le prof. Dyson est également mentionné dans la liste établie par Clarivate des chercheurs les plus cités (Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher), avec un H-index >110 (Web of Science et Google Scholar). Paul Dyson a été élu membre de la Royal Société de Chimie en 2010, membre de l’Académie Européenne des Sciences en 2019 et membre à vie de l’Association Américaine pour l’Avancement de la Science en 2020. Au cours des dernières années il s’est vu décerner le titre de Professeurs Hôte par l’Université de Bourgogne, l’Université de Pierre et Marie Curie, l’Université de Vienne, l’Université de Rome Tor Vergara, l'Ecole Nationale Supérieure de chimie de Paris (Chimie ParisTech) et par l’Université de Shangai Jiao Tong. De 2016 à 2021 il était membre du conseil de la recherche de la division de mathématique, sciences naturelles et de l’ingénieur du Fonds National Suisse. En 2021, il a été nommé doyen de la Faculté des Sciences de Base.

Frédéric Meyer

Daniele Mari

Daniele Mari was born in Milan in 1961, After a scientific high school degree obatained in Italy Daniele Mari joins EPFL in 1980 and graduates in Physics in 1986. In 1991, he obtains the Ph.D. from the same institution working in the field of metal-ceramic composites. From 1992 to 1993 he continues his research as a post-doc at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a work on shape-memory alloys. In 1993, he joins the company Amysa Yverdon SA (Switzerland) as director of Research and Development and creates ACME (Advanced Composite & Microwave Engineering) with activities in the fields of the electromagnetic heating and materials science. In parallel with his industrial activities, D. Mari has supervised different research projects in materials science at the EPFL. In 2004 he joins the Laboratoire de Physique de la Matière Complexe to develop mechanical spectroscopy in the field of hard materials and steels. He is appointed MER in 2012. Since then he is responsible for the Physics Laboratories (for student training) and Auditoriums. Since 2013 D. Mari is the Deputy Director of the Physics School.

Gérard Gremaud

Originaire du canton de Fribourg (Suisse), Gérard Gremaud est né en 1949. Après des études classiques au Collège St Michel à Fribourg, il obtient un diplôme d'ingénieur-physicien en 1974 et un doctorat ès science en 1981 à l'EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne). Ensuite, en tant qu'adjoint scientifique, il devient responsable de recherche à l'EPFL. Il est ensuite co-responsable du Laboratoire de Spectroscopie Mécanique à l'Institut de Physique de la Matière Complexe à l'EPFL. En 2002, il devient aussi chef du service des travaux pratiques et auditoires de physique de l'EPFL, qui occupe une dizaine de personnes. En 2005, il est nommé professeur titulaire à l'EPFL. Depuis 1976, il a assumé une cinquantaine de charges de cours dans les domaines de l'acoustique, des vibrations, de la physique métallurgique, de la thermodynamique, de la théorie des dislocations, de la métrologie, des travaux pratiques de physique, ainsi que des cours de base en physique (mécanique, thermodynamique et introduction à la physique quantique) et des démonstrations de physique. Depuis 2012, il est professeur honoraire de l'EPFL. Ses domaines de recherche ont couvert des sujets variés comme la dynamique des dislocations, les transitions de phase structurales, les propriétés mécaniques et tribologiques à l'échelle nanoscopique et les propriétés mécaniques des milieux granulaires vibrés (spectroscopie mécanique). Dans ces domaines, il a dirigé ou co-dirigé une dizaine de thèses de doctorat. Il est auteur de nombreux modèles théoriques qui sont largement cités. Se spécialisant dans les techniques de spectroscopie acoustique, il a développé aussi plusieurs techniques de mesure originales, comme la technique de couplage acoustique (publications représentatives). Il est l'auteur de plus de 130 articles de recherche, de 13 chapitres de livre, de 6 publications de vulgarisation, de trois livres en tant qu'éditeur et de deux livres en tant qu'auteur . En plus d'une quarantaine de présentations invitées au niveau international, il est membre du comité scientifique de la conférence internationale ICIFMS, et il a participé à l'organisation de plusieurs conférences et écoles d'été. Membre de plusieurs sociétés scientifiques. il contribue aussi comme « referee » pour de nombreux journaux scientifiques et plusieurs organisations de financement de la recherche. Il a aussi participé durant plusieurs années à deux petites sociétés anonymes en tant qu'administrateur ou président. En 2011, Gérard Gremaud a reçu le prix Zener et la médaille d'or Zener. Cette distinction récompense des contributions exceptionnelles dans les domaines de la science des matériaux et de la physique. .

Pierre-André Farine

Pierre-André Farine received the Doctoral and Engineering Degrees in Microtechnology from University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, respectively in 1984 and 1978, and the Engineering in Microtechnology from ETS Le Locle in 1974. He was working 17 years for the Swiss watch industries (Swatch Group), including developments for high-tech products, such as pager watches, watches including integrated sensors such as pressure, compass, altimeter and temperature sensors for Tissot. He was also involved in prototypes developments for watches including GPS and cellular GSM phones. Since 8 years, he is Professor in Electronics and Signal Processing at the Institute of Microtechnology IMT, University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Full professor at EPFL since January 1st, 2009, he works in the field of low-power integrated products for portable devices, including microelectronics for wireless telecommunications, UWB and GNSS systems. He is Head of the Electronics and Signal Processing Laboratory ESPLAB of the EPFL IMT-NE. His laboratory works also for video and audio compression algorithms and their implementation in low power integrated circuits.
