Avant de rejoindre le Centre for Area and Cultural Studies (CACS) de l’EPFL en 2010, elle a été maître assistante en anthropologie à l’Université de Lausanne où elle a enseigné dans les domaines de la théorie culturelle et de la méthodologie d’enquête de terrain. Directrice adjointe, puis Directrice du CACS entre 2012 et 2014, elle est maître d’enseignement et de recherche au sein du Collège des Humanités de l’EPFL et enseigne dans le domaine des area studies, de l’anthropologie de la Chine, des critical heritage studies et des études urbaines. Entre 2012 et 2016, elle a été directrice du Minor in Area and Cultural Studies. Depuis 2015, elle est membre de la commission de Ecole doctorale d’architecture et science de la ville (EDAR) de la Faculté de l’environnement naturel, architectural et construit (ENAC) de l’EPFL. Professeure invitée au Département d’architecture et de Design, Politecnico di Torino, Italie, depuis 2015, ses domaines d’expertise comprennent l’anthropologie de la Chine, la sociologie urbaine, les modes de sociabilité et la gouvernementalité Ses intérêts de recherche portent sur les liens entre la culture et le pouvoir (construction de la politique culturelle en Chine ; émergence des communautés de makers (makerspaces) et politique d’innovation en Chine), sur les questions patrimoniales (processus de patrimonialisation et du multiculturalisme en Malaisie et à Singapour ; mise en œuvre de la Convention de l’UNESCO pour la sauvegarde du patrimoine culturel immatériel en Suisse), ainsi que sur la fabrication de la ville (notion de paysage historique urbain dans les politiques patrimoniales à Pékin, Rome et Mexico City ; résistances informelles face à la violence de l’urbanisme à Caracas, Chennai et Guangzhou ; construction d’habitats autonomes à la suite de situations catastrophiques en Inde, au Liban et en Malaisie ; usages des espaces publics dans les nouvelles villes chinoises).

Eklavya SarkarEklavya Sarkar is currently a Research Assistant and Doctoral Student at EPFL, working in the Speech and Audio Processing group at Idiap Research Institute, under the supervision of Dr. Mathew Magimai Doss. His project is funded by the NCCR Evolving Languages project, under the Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) Work Package of the Transversal Task Force (TTF) Technology.
Previously, he was a Research Intern in the Biometrics Security and Privacy lab at Idiap, under Dr. Sébastien Marcel, working on the Generation, Detection, and Vulnerability Analysis of Face Recognition Systems to Face Morphing Presentation Attacks, particularly on novel methods involving StyleGAN2.He also worked as an intern at CERN, under Dr. Archana Sharma, on the 'CMS-GEM' collaboration at the CMS Experiment Lab.He was affiliated with Prof. and Nobel Laureate Didier Queloz and supervised by Dr. Daniel Kessler for a project on Exoplanets during high-school, which was selected for the TM-TPE Colloque Transfrontalier 2013, also at CERN.He holds:

Dario FloreanoProf. Dario Floreano is director of the Laboratory of Intelligent Systems at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL). Since 2010, he is the founding director of the Swiss National Center of Competence in Robotics, a research program that brings together more than 20 labs across Switzerland. Prof. Floreano holds an M.A. in Vision, an M.S. in Neural Computation, and a PhD in Robotics. He has held research positions at Sony Computer Science Laboratory, at Caltech/JPL, and at Harvard University. His main research interests are Robotics and A.I. at the convergence of biology and engineering. Prof. Floreano made pioneering contributions to the fields of evolutionary robotics, aerial robotics, and soft robotics. He served in numerous advisory boards and committees, including the Future and Emerging Technologies division of the European Commission, the World Economic Forum Agenda Council, the International Society of Artificial Life, the International Neural Network Society, and in the editorial committee of several scientific journals. Maria Giulia PretiMaria Giulia Preti received her Ph.D. in Bioengineering at Politecnico di Milano (Milan, Italy) in 2013, after her M. Sc. (2009) and B. Sc. (2007) in Biomedical Engineering, as well at Politecnico di Milano. During her Ph.D., mentored by Prof. Giuseppe Baselli, she focused on advanced techniques of brain magnetic resonance imaging, in particular she developed a method of groupwise fMRI-guided tractography, that revealed to be useful in the in-vivo investigation of the pathophysiological changes across the evolution of Alzheimers disease. For this project, she had been collaborating full-time with the hospital Fondazione Don Gnocchi in Milan (Magnetic Resonance Laboratory). In 2011, she was awarded a Progetto Rocca fellowship from MIT-Italy and spent a visiting research period at the MIT and Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA), under the supervision of Prof. Nikos Makris, where she could focus on the anatomical study of specific neruonal bundles.
She has joined Prof. Van De Ville group at EPFL as a post-doc in 2013. Her current research aims at understanding the connections between brain functionality and brain microscopic anatomy by using advanced techniques of Magnetic Resonance Imaging. In particular, she is working on functional MRI, functional connectivity, diffusion tensor imaging and tractography, integration of MRI with other techniques (e.g. EEG), and the application of these methods to several clinical contexts, e.g., epilepsy, Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment, multiple sclerosis, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Jacques LévyJacques Lévy (1952-) est professeur ordinaire de géographie et durbanisme à lÉcole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne. Il y dirige le Laboratoire Chôros et le programme doctoral Architecture et Sciences de la Ville.
Thématiques
Ses centres dintérêts principaux sont la théorie de lespace des sociétés, notamment au travers de la géographie du politique, des villes et de lurbanité, de lEurope et de la mondialisation. Il sintéresse à lépistémologie et aux méthodes des sciences sociales, avec une attention particulière pour la cartographie et la modélisation. Il travaille à lintroduction des langages non-verbaux, notamment audio-visuels à tous les niveaux de la recherche. Il a réalisé en 2013 un long métrage, Urbanité/s, qui se veut un manifeste pour le film scientifique.

Il a été chercheur au CNRS (1984-1993), professeur à lInstitut détudes politiques de Paris (1989-2007) et professeur à lUniversité de Reims (1993-2004). Il est professeur invité à New York (NYU), Los Angeles (UCLA), Naples (IUO), São Paulo (USP), Mexico (Cátedra Reclus) et Sydney (Macquarie University), fellow au Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin (2003-2004).

Volkan CevherVolkan Cevher received the B.Sc. (valedictorian) in electrical engineering from Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey, in 1999 and the Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA in 2005. He was a Research Scientist with the University of Maryland, College Park from 2006-2007 and also with Rice University in Houston, TX, from 2008-2009. Currently, he is an Associate Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne and a Faculty Fellow in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Rice University. His research interests include machine learning, signal processing theory, optimization theory and methods, and information theory. Dr. Cevher is an ELLIS fellow and was the recipient of the Google Faculty Research award in 2018, the IEEE Signal Processing Society Best Paper Award in 2016, a Best Paper Award at CAMSAP in 2015, a Best Paper Award at SPARS in 2009, and an ERC CG in 2016 as well as an ERC StG in 2011.
Wulfram GerstnerWulfram Gerstner is Director of the Laboratory of Computational Neuroscience LCN at the EPFL. His research in computational neuroscience concentrates on models of spiking neurons and spike-timing dependent plasticity, on the problem of neuronal coding in single neurons and populations, as well as on the link between biologically plausible learning rules and behavioral manifestations of learning. He teaches courses for Physicists, Computer Scientists, Mathematicians, and Life Scientists at the EPFL. After studies of Physics in Tübingen and at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (Master 1989), Wulfram Gerstner spent a year as a visiting researcher in Berkeley. He received his PhD in theoretical physics from the Technical University Munich in 1993 with a thesis on associative memory and dynamics in networks of spiking neurons. After short postdoctoral stays at Brandeis University and the Technical University of Munich, he joined the EPFL in 1996 as assistant professor. Promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in February 2001, he is since August 2006 a full professor with double appointment in the School of Computer and Communication Sciences and the School of Life Sciences. Wulfram Gerstner has been invited speaker at numerous international conferences and workshops. He has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Neuroscience, Network: Computation in Neural Systems',
Journal of Computational Neuroscience', and `Science'.
