Nava SetterNava Setter completed MSc in Civil Engineering in the Technion (Israel) and PhD in Solid State Science in Penn. State University (USA) (1980). After post-doctoral work at the Universities of Oxford (UK) and Geneva (Switzerland), she joined an R&D institute in Haifa (Israel) where she became the head of the Electronic Ceramics Lab (1988). She began her affiliation with EPFL in 1989 as the Director of the Ceramics Laboratory, becoming Full Professor of Materials Science and Engineering in 1992. She had been Head of the Materials Department in the past and more recently has served as the Director of the Doctoral School for Materials.
Research at the Ceramics Laboratory, which Nava Setter directs, concerns the science and technology of functional ceramics focusing on piezoelectric and related materials: ferroelectrics, dielectrics, pyroelectrics and also ferromagnetics. The work includes fundamental and applied research and covers the various scales from the atoms to the final devices. Emphasis is given to micro- and nano-fabrication technology with ceramics and coupled theoretical and experimental studies of the functioning of ferroelectrics.
Her own research interests include ferroelectrics and piezoelectrics: in particular the effects of interfaces, finite-size and domain-wall phenomena, as well as structure-property relations and the pursuit of new applications. The leading thread in her work over the years has been the demonstration of how basic or fundamental concepts in materials - particularly ferroelectrics - can be utilized in a new way and/or in new types of devices. She has published over 450 scientific and technical papers.
Nava Setter is a Fellow of the Swiss Academy of Technical Sciences, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and the World Academy of Ceramics. Among the awards she received are the Swiss-Korea Research Award, the ISIF outstanding achievement award, and the Ferroelectrics-IEEE recognition award. In 2010 her research was recognized by the European Union by the award of an ERC Advanced Investigator Grant. Recently she received the IEEE-UFFC Achievement Award (2011),the W.R. Buessem Award(2011), the Robert S. Sosman Award Lecture (American Ceramics Society) (2013), and the American Vacuum Society Recognition for Excellence in Leadership (2013).
Aurelio MuttoniAurelio Muttoni est professeur ordinaire et directeur du Laboratoire de Construction en Béton de l’Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Suisse). Il a reçu son diplôme et son doctorat en génie civil de l’Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Zürich à Zürich, Suisse, en 1982 et 1989 respectivement.
Ses activités actuelles en matière d’enseignement se concentrent sur la conception des structures, la théorie et le dimensionnement des structures en béton ainsi que la conception des ponts. Son groupe de recherche est actif dans les domaines suivants : comportement et méthodes de dimensionnement des structures en béton, conception de structures innovantes, effort tranchant dans les structures en béton, poinçonnement des dalles, analyse non-linéaire des structures incluant leur fiabilité, adhérence entre l’acier et le béton, engrènement des granulats, fatigue et influence de la durée de chargement sur la résistance du béton, comportement mécanique et principes de dimensionnement pour le béton à ultra-hautes performances, béton textile et béton recyclé.

in the laboratory of Fred Cross. From 1995 to 1998, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of William Jacobs at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Bronx, NY), where he studied mechanisms of persistence in
Mycobacterium tuberculosis
. In 1999, he returned to Rockefeller University to establish his own laboratory as an Assistant (1999-2004) and then Associate (2004-2007) Professor. In July 2007, the lab relocated to the Global Health Institute in the School of Life Sciences at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland, where McKinney is Professor and Head of the Laboratory of Microbiology and Microsystems (LMIC). Our research focuses on understanding the mechanistic basis of bacterial persistence in the context of host immunity and antimicrobial therapy, using

Juan Ramón Troncoso-PastorizaJuan Ramón Troncoso-Pastoriza received the M.S. degree in Telecommunications Engineering (Hons) from the University of Vigo, Vigo, Spain, in 2005, when he also received the Best Student Award from the Galician Government and the National Best Graduate Student Award from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science. He held two consecutive grants from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science for collaboration with the Telematics Department (2004-2005) and for the development of the Ph.D. Thesis (Formación de Profesorado Universitario, 2006-2011). In 2012, he received the Ph.D. in Telecommunications Engineering (European Doctorate Mention, Hons). His Ph.D. thesis, entitled "Encrypted Domain Processing for Signal Processing Applications," was awarded the Best Ph.D. Thesis by the University of Vigo, and the best Ph.D. Thesis in Spain in Telecommunication Networks and Services by the Spanish Official Institute of Telecommunications Engineers (COIT).
He worked at the Signal Theory and Communications Department in the University of Vigo from 2005 to 2016 as an Associate Researcher, and as a Post-doctoral Researcher at AtlanTTic Research Center for Information and Communication Technologies at the University of Vigo since 2012. Between 2006 and 2007 he visited the Information and Systems Security Department at Philips Research Europe (The Netherlands), where he started working on genomic privacy and filed a PCT international patent application. In 2016, he joined the Laboratory for Communications and Applications 1 at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland, as a Post-doctoral researcher to work in genomic privacy-related topics.
He is an elected member of the IEEE Information Forensics and Security Technical Committee and the IEEE Signal Processing Society Student Services Committee for the period 2017-2019. He has been a member of the Technical Program Committee of the IEEE WIFS 2015 and 2017, and part of the organizing committees of IEEE WIFS 2012, ACM IH&MMSEC 2016 and the upcoming EUSIPCO 2018. He has also taken part in several European projects in the area of multimedia security, such as ECRYPT and SPEED, both in FP6; during 2015-2018 he has been the scientific coordinator of the EU H2020 funded project WITDOM, focused on privacy-preserving computation in Cloud. He currently participates in several Swiss projects related to medical privacy and security (DPPH), and application of distributed ledger technologies. He has been reviewer of more than 20 peer-reviewed international journals and more than 30 editions of several international conferences in the field of information security, and serves now as Associate Editor of Elsevier's Digital Signal Processing Journal, EURASIP Journal on Information Security, EURASIP Journal of Visual Communications and Image Representation, and IET Information Security.
He has also participated in several National and regional public-funded projects and private contracts related to information security and privacy protection, an area in which he has coauthored numerous papers in international journals and conferences, and holds four granted international patents in collaboration with Gradiant (Galician Research Center in Advanced Telecommunications).
His past teaching experience covers several undergraduate courses on Communications Theory and Digital Communications in Telecommunications Engineering Bachelor and 5-year degrees at the University of Vigo, and the supervision of multiple semester and master students at EPFL. Additionally, he worked as the network manager and webmaster of the Signal Processing in Communications Group at the University of Vigo from 2009 to 2016, and was the webmaster for the IEEE WIFS 2012.
His research interests include genomic privacy, secure signal processing, applied cryptography for privacy protection and multimedia security.
