Sean Lewis Hill

Sean Hill is co-Director of Blue Brain, a Swiss national brain initiative, where he leads the Neuroinformatics division, based at the Campus Biotech in Geneva, Switzerland. He also directs the Laboratory for the Neural Basis of Brain States at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). Dr. Hill served as the Executive Director (2011-2013) and Scientific Director (2014-2016) of the International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF) at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. Dr. Hill has extensive experience in building and simulating large-scale models of brain circuitry and has also supervised and led research efforts exploring the principles underlying the structure and dynamics of neocortical and thalamocortical microcircuitry. He currently serves in management and advisory roles on several large-scale clinical informatics initiatives around the world. After completing his Ph.D. in computational neuroscience at the Université de Lausanne, Switzerland, Dr. Hill held postdoctoral positions at The Neurosciences Institute in La Jolla, California and the University of Wisconsin, Madison, then joined the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center where he served as the Project Manager for Computational Neuroscience at Blue Brain until his appointment at the EPFL.

Jean-François Molinari

Professor J.F. Molinari is the director of the Computational Solid Mechanics Laboratory (http://lsms.epfl.ch) at EPFL, Switzerland. He holds an appointment in the Civil Engineering institute, which he directed from 2013 to 2017, and a joint appointment in the Materials Science institute. He started his tenure at EPFL in 2007, and was promoted to Full Professor in 2012. He is currently an elected member of the Research Council of the Swiss National Science Foundation in Division 2 (Mathematics, Natural and Engineering Sciences), and co editor in chief of the journal Mechanics of Materials. J.F. Molinari graduated from Caltech, USA, in 2001, with a M.S. and Ph.D. in Aeronautics. He held professorships in several countries besides Switzerland, including the United States with a position in Mechanical Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University (2000-2006), and France at Ecole Normale Supérieure Cachan in Mechanics (2005-2007), as well as a Teaching Associate position at the Ecole Polytechnique de Paris (2006-2009). The work conducted by Prof. Molinari and his collaborators takes place at the frontier between traditional disciplines and covers several length scales from atomistic to macroscopic scales. Over the years, Professor Molinari and his group have been developing novel multiscale approaches for a seamless coupling across scales. The activities of the laboratory span the domains of damage mechanics of materials and structures, nano- and microstructural mechanical properties, and tribology.

Avec un parcours de neuropsychologue clinicienne, j’apprécie beaucoup de travailler avec des populations cliniques. J’ai appris et continue à apprendre énormément auprès des patients que je rencontre, non seulement sur la pathologie qui les touchent, mais aussi sur la manière d’appréhender la recherche et la clinique. Après une Licence en Psychologie à l’Université de Strasbourg (France), j’ai effectué en 2005 un Master Professionnel de Neuropsychologie clinique à l’Université de Caen Basse-Normandie (France). J’ai exercé comme neuropsychologue clinicienne en milieu hospitalier (unités de neurologie, et gériatrie), puis j’ai intégré le Département de Psychiatrie du CHU de Strasbourg. Alliant clinique et recherche, j’ai étudié au cours de ma thèse de Doctorat (soutenue en 2014) les troubles de la mémoire autobiographiques dans la schizophrénie (Unité INSERM). J’ai rejoint l’équipe du Prof. Olaf Blanke en 2016 en tant que collaboratrice scientifique.
