Bixio RimoldiBixio Rimoldi received the Dipl. El.-Ing degree as well as the Dr. ès Sciences degree from the ETHZ, Switzerland. Since 1997, he holds a full professor position at the School of Computer and Communication Sciences at EPFL and he is the director of EPFL's Mobile Communications Laboratory (LCM). Prior to joining EPFL, he was in the faculty of the Electrical Engineering department of Washington University.
In 1993, he received a US National Science Foundation Young Investigator Award. In 2000, he was elected to the grade of Fellow of the IEEE. During the period 2002-2009 he has been on the Board of Governors of the IEEE Information Theory Society, where he served in several offices including President. He was co-chairman with Bruce Hajek of the 1995 IEEE Information Theory Workshop on Information Theory, Multiple Access, and Queueing (St Louis, MO), and co-chairman with Jim Massey of the 2002 IEEE International Symposium in Information Theory (Lausanne, Switzerland). He has been a member of the editorial board of "Foundations and Trends on Communications and Information Theory," and was an editor of the European Transactions on Telecommunications. During 2005 and 2006 he was the Director of EPFL's Bachelor program in Communication Systems.
His interests are in various aspects of digital communications, information theory, and software-defined radio.
Anja SkrivervikAnja Skrivervik obtained her electrical engineering degree from Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in 1986, and her PhD from the same institution in 1992, for which she received the Latsis award. After a stay at the University of Rennes as an invited Research Fellow and two years in the industry, she returned part time to EPFL as an Assistant Professor in 1996, and is now a Professeur Titulaire at this institution, where she is the head of the Microwave and Antenna Group. Her research activities include electrically small antennas, antennas in biological media, periodic structures, reflect- and tranmitarrays, and numerical techniques for electromagnetics. She is author or co-author of more than 200 peer reviewed scientific publications. Her teaching activities include courses on microwaves and antennas, and she has course at Bachelor, Master and PhD levels. She was director of the EE section form 1996-2000, and is currently the director of the EE doctoral school at EPFL.
She is very active in European collaboration and European projects. She was the chairperson of the Swiss URSI until 2012, is a Board member of the European School on Antennas and is frequently requested to review research programs and centers in Europe. She is a member of the board of directors of the European Association on Antennas and Propagation (EurAAP) since 2017.
Wolf Hendrik HuwaldDr. Hendrik Huwald is a scientist at the Laboratory of Cryospheric Sciences (CRYOS) and a lecturer at the Environmental Sciences and Engineering Section (SSIE) of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). He completed his PhD in 2003 at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich (ETHZ), developing a numerical model for sea ice and studying energy transfer processes in the Arctic. Between 2005 and 2012 he was a post-doctoral fellow and scientist at the Laboratory of Environmental Fluid Mechanics and Hydrology (EFLUM) of EPFL working on Alpine snow-atmosphere interaction, and energy balance-related research mainly in mountain regions. During this time, he designed, led and participated in numerous large field experiments in different environments. In 2013 he joined the newly founded CRYOS laboratory where he conducted research in the domains of snow science, hydrology, boundary layer meteorology and environmental sensing. He has extensive experience with project management both on national and international level.
Serge VaudenaySerge Vaudenay entered at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in 1989 with a major in mathematics. He earned his agrégation (secondary teaching degree) in mathematics in 1992, then a PhD in Computer Science at the University of Paris 7 - Denis Diderot in 1995. He subsequently became a senior research fellow at the CNRS, prior to being granted his habilitation à diriger des recherches (a postdoctoral degree authorizing the recipient to supervise doctoral students). In 1999, he was appointed as a Professor at the EPFL, where he created the Security and Cryptography Laboratory.
Alexis BoegliDr Alexis Boegli holds a PhD from the University of Neuchâtel. Starting with a mechanical background, Alexis has a ten year experience in the design and implementation of analogue and digital electronic systems. Since 2001, he has focused on the design and implementation of RF systems. Alexis has designed several RF boards for IP01 including the actually commercialized one. Working as a post-doc project leader at IMT, he is challenged by the optimization of size, range, power and production of wireless systems. His position at the IMT Neuchâtel (University of Neuchâtel until 2008, EPFL Neuchâtel since 2009) provides access to a highly professional design environment and direct contacts to other research institutes such as the EPFL and the CSEM.
Mohammad Amin ShokrollahiAmin Shokrollahi has worked on a variety of topics, including coding theory, computational number theory and algebra, and computational/algebraic complexity theory. He is best known for his work on iterative decoding algorithms of graph based codes, an area in which he holds a number of granted and pending patents. He is the co-inventor of Tornado codes, and the inventor of Raptor codes. His codes have been standardized and successfully deployed in practical areas dealing with data transmission over lossy networks.
Prior to joining EPFL, Amin Shokrollahi has held positions as the chief scientist of Digital Fountain, member of the technical staff at Bell Laboratories, senior researcher at the International Computer Science Insitute in Berkeley, and assistant professor at the department of computer science of the university of Bonn. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, and he was awarded the Best Paper Award of the IEEE IT Society in 2002 for his work on iterative decoding of LDPC code, the IEEE Eric Sumner Award in 2007 for the development of Fountain Codes, and the joint Communication Society/Information Theory Society best paper award of 2007 for his paper on Raptor Codes.
