Paternal careIn biology, paternal care is parental investment provided by a male to his own offspring. It is a complex social behaviour in vertebrates associated with animal mating systems, life history traits, and ecology. Paternal care may be provided in concert with the mother (biparental care) or, more rarely, by the male alone (so called exclusive paternal care). The provision of care, by either males or females, is presumed to increase growth rates, quality, and/or survival of young, and hence ultimately increase the inclusive fitness of parents.
SocialitéLa socialité désigne la tendance d'une population animale à vivre en groupe. Il en existe plusieurs niveaux, allant jusqu'à la formation de sociétés animales. Comme dans tout procédé évolutif, il existe une certaine variabilité de caractères entre les individus d'une population. Lorsque certains d'entre eux affectent de manière positive la fitness, c'est-à-dire la valeur reproductive, de ceux-ci, ces caractères prendront une part relative plus importante au sein de la population et seront transmis aux descendants, selon la sélection naturelle.
