Physical therapy

Physical therapy (PT), also known as physiotherapy, is one of the allied health professions. It is provided by physical therapists who promote, maintain, or restore health through physical examination, diagnosis, management, prognosis, patient education, physical intervention, rehabilitation, disease prevention, and health promotion. Physical therapists are known as physiotherapists in many countries. The career has many specialties including musculoskeletal, orthopedics, cardiopulmonary, neurology, endocrinology, sports medicine, geriatrics, pediatrics, women's health, wound care and electromyography. PTs practice in many settings, both public and private. In addition to clinical practice, other aspects of physical therapist practice include research, education, consultation, and health administration. Dakar, renaissance d'un monument (Afrique)

Métropole économique et politique du pays, la ville de Dakar est victime de son attractivité et s'étouffe peu à peu. Dépassée par sa densification accélérée, elle ne montre que des traces d'un passé colonial non restauré et d'une extension urbaine perpétuelle qui repousse les limites de la ville. Le projet requalifie un ancien Palais de Justice situé sur une pointe oubliée au Sud de la ville. Ne répondant plus aux besoins actuels et ayant subi des dégradations importantes dues à un drainage insuffisant, l'édifice colonial est abandonné depuis plus de 30 ans. ; La réponse architecturale consiste à réanimer le bâtiment en l'entourant d'un socle de programmes publics. L'intervention tente de redynamiser le quartier, entraînant ainsi une densification de la presqu'île à long terme, et de protéger un programme introverti. Le socle réinterprète le système de claustras préfabriquées en béton armé existant. Son enveloppe se traduit par un filtre climatique et visuel, qui gère l'évacuation problématique de l'eau. L'ouverture de chaque commerce induit un entretien du drain, indispensable à la pérennité du bâtiment. ; Par cette démarche, l'ancien Palais de Justice peut être reconverti en Centre de réhabilitation pour l'Afrique de l'Ouest. L'existant accueille les équipements du centre, tels que services de physiothérapie, salles de consultation, administration, restaurants, etc. Les annexes, répétant la typologie à cour, desservent à l'étage les chambres des résidents, et au rez-de-chaussée des programmes publics destinés au quartier.

Adversarial Laser Beam: Effective Physical-World Attack to DNNs in a Blink

Though it is well known that the performance of deep neural networks (DNNs) degrades under certain light conditions, there exists no study on the threats of light beams emitted from some physical source as adversarial attacker on DNNs in a real-world scenario. In this work, we show by simply using a laser beam that DNNs are easily fooled. To this end, we propose a novel attack method called Adversarial Laser Beam (AdvLB), which enables manipulation of laser beam's physical parameters to perform adversarial attack. Experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach in both digital- and physical-settings. We further empirically analyze the evaluation results and reveal that the proposed laser beam attack may lead to some interesting prediction errors of the state-of-the-art DNNs. We envisage that the proposed AdvLB method enriches the current family of adversarial attacks and builds the foundation for future robustness studies for light.

Anatomically plausible illusory posture affects mental rotation of body parts

During mental rotation (MR) of body parts, people internally simulate the movement of their corresponding body segments. These sensory-motor mechanisms render MR sensitive to proprioceptive information (e.g., posture). Similar mechanisms can alter illusory hand ownership following synchronous visuotactile stimulation (e.g., the rubber hand illusion [RHI]). In the present study, we first showed that illusory ownership for a fake hand can also be induced when the posture of the fake hand (palm-up) does not correspond with the subject's physical hand posture (palm-down). Then we tested whether illusory ownership for a fake hand in such a posture impacts the MR of hands carried out immediately and repeatedly after the RHI. The results showed that MR was altered for the view corresponding to the fake hand's posture, but not for other views. Additionally, these effects depended on illusory ownership, as only synchronous visuotactile stimulation was found to lead to these changes, characterized by a modulation of the rotation-dependent profile of MR response times. These findings show that similar sensory-motor mechanisms are recruited during the MR of hands and illusory hand ownership manipulated through multisensory mismatch, and that bottom-up visuotactile stimulation interferes with high-level imagery processes.
