Expressionnisme abstrait

Lexpressionnisme abstrait est un mouvement artistique qui s'est développé peu après la Seconde Guerre mondiale aux États-Unis. C'est aussi un élément central de l'école de New York, « école » qui a rassemblé les artistes (poètes, peintres, musiciens...) d'avant-garde actifs à New York et aux États-Unis avant et après la Seconde Guerre mondiale. On parle d'expressionnisme abstrait pour un certain type de peinture, de sculpture et de photographie.
Formalism (art)
In art history, formalism is the study of art by analyzing and comparing form and style. Its discussion also includes the way objects are made and their purely visual or material aspects. In painting, formalism emphasizes compositional elements such as color, line, shape, texture, and other perceptual aspects rather than content, meaning, or the historical and social context. At its extreme, formalism in art history posits that everything necessary to comprehending a work of art is contained within the work of art.
Postmodern art
Postmodern art is a body of art movements that sought to contradict some aspects of modernism or some aspects that emerged or developed in its aftermath. In general, movements such as intermedia, installation art, conceptual art and multimedia, particularly involving video are described as postmodern. There are several characteristics which lend art to being postmodern; these include bricolage, the use of text prominently as the central artistic element, collage, simplification, appropriation, performance art, the recycling of past styles and themes in a modern-day context, as well as the break-up of the barrier between fine and high arts and low art and popular culture.
New media art
New media art includes artworks designed and produced by means of electronic media technologies, comprising virtual art, computer graphics, computer animation, digital art, interactive art, sound art, Internet art, video games, robotics, 3D printing, and cyborg art. The term defines itself by the thereby created artwork, which differentiates itself from that deriving from conventional visual arts (i.e. architecture, painting, sculpture, etc.). New Media art has origins in the worlds of science, art, and performance.
Late modernism
In the visual arts, late modernism encompasses the overall production of most recent art made between the aftermath of World War II and the early years of the 21st century. The terminology often points to similarities between late modernism and post-modernism although there are differences. The predominant term for art produced since the 1950s is contemporary art. Not all art labelled as contemporary art is modernist or post-modern, and the broader term encompasses both artists who continue to work in modern and late modernist traditions, as well as artists who reject modernism for post-modernism or other reasons.

De nombreuses définitions existent et ne donnent pas les mêmes limites temporelles et conceptuelles à l'art contemporain. Une première définition indique que l'art contemporain est l'ensemble des œuvres produites depuis 1945 à nos jours, et ce quels qu'en soient le style et la pratique esthétique mais principalement dans le champ des arts plastiques.
