Touradj Ebrahimi
Touradj EBRAHIMI received his M.Sc. and Ph.D., both in Electrical Engineering, from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1989 and 1992 respectively. In 1993, he was a research engineer at the Corporate Research Laboratories of Sony Corporation in Tokyo, where he conducted research on advanced video compression techniques for storage applications. In 1994, he served as a research consultant at AT&T Bell Laboratories working on very low bitrate video coding. He is currently Professor at EPFL heading its Multimedia Signal Processing Group. He is also the Convenor of JPEG standardization Committee. He was also adjunct Professor with the Center of Quantifiable Quality of Service at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)between 2008 and 2012.
Prof. Ebrahimi has been the recipient of various distinctions and awards, such as the IEEE and Swiss national ASE award, the SNF-PROFILE grant for advanced researchers, Four ISO-Certificates for key contributions to MPEG-4 and JPEG 2000, and the best paper award of IEEE Trans. on Consumer Electronics . He became a Fellow of the international society for optical engineering (SPIE) in 2003. Prof. Ebrahimi has initiated more than two dozen National, European and International cooperation projects with leading companies and research institutes around the world. He is a co-founder of Genista SA, a high-tech start-up company in the field of multimedia quality metrics. In 2002, he founded Emitall SA, start-up active in the area of media security and surveillance. In 2005, he founded EMITALL Surveillance SA, a start-up active in the field of privacy and protection. He is or has been associate Editor with various IEEE, SPIE, and EURASIP journals, such as IEEE Signal Processing Magazine, IEEE Trans. on Image Processing, IEEE Trans. on Multimedia, EURASIP Image Communication Journal, EURASIP Journal of Applied Signal Processing, SPIE Optical Engineering Magazine. Prof. Ebrahimi is a member of Scientific Advisory Board of various start-up and established companies in the general field of Information Technology. He has served as Scientific Expert and Evaluator for Research Funding Agencies such as those of European Commission, The Greek Ministry of Development, The Austrian National Foundation for Scientific Research, The Portuguese Science Foundation, as well as a number of Venture Capital Companies active in the field of Information Technologies and Communication Systems. His research interests include still, moving, and 3D image processing and coding, visual information security (rights protection, watermarking, authentication, data integrity, steganography), new media, and human computer interfaces (smart vision, brain computer interface).
He is the author or the co-author of more than 200 research publications, and holds 14 patents. Prof. Ebrahimi is a member of IEEE, SPIE, ACM and IS&T.

Hannes Bleuler
Originaire de Zollikon (ZH), Hannes Bleuler est né en 1954 au Maroc où il passa son enfance. Après la maturité latine a Zürich, il entre au Département d'électricité à l'ETHZ. Il obtient son diplôme en automatique, en 1978, et entre en fonction comme assistant à l'Institut de mécanique de la même école.
Il y participe à l'établissement du groupe de mécatronique et obtient son doctorat dans le domaine des paliers magnétiques actifs, activité qui mène à la fondation d'une compagnie avec des collègues et à un premier séjour de deux ans chez Hitachi au Japon.
De 1991 à 1995, il est d'abord Toshiba Professor of Intelligent Mechatronics à l'institut des sciences industrielles de l'Université de Tokyo et ensuite professeur associé régulier au département de microtechnique à cette même université.
Il y travaille en microtechnique (instrumentation) et robotique. A l'EPFL, ses activités se concentrent sur la robotique biomédicale et l'interface homme-machine (interfaces haptiques) et l'entraînement et la simulation de chirurgie. Il est directeur de la section microtechnique 2008-2009. Il anime les relations et les échanges entre l'EPFL et le Japon sur tous les niveaux et donne un cours (2010) sur l'histoire des sciences au Japon dans le cadre du Collège des Humanités.
Daniel Thalmann
Prof. Daniel Thalmann is Honorary Professor at EPFL and Director of Research development at MIRALab Sarl. He has been Visiting Professor at The Institute for Media Innovation (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore) from 2009 to 2017. He is a pioneer in research on Virtual Humans. His current research interests include Real-time Virtual Humans in Virtual Reality, crowd simulation, and 3D Interaction. Daniel Thalmann has been the Founder of The Virtual Reality Lab (VRlab) at EPFL, Switzerland, Professor at The University of Montreal and Visiting Professor/ Researcher at CERN, University of Nebraska, University of Tokyo, and National University of Singapore. Until October 2010, he was the President of the Swiss Association of Research in Information Technology and one Director of the European Research Consortium in Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM). He is coeditor-in-chief of the Journal of Computer Animation and Virtual Worlds, and member of the editorial board of 6 other journals. Daniel Thalmann was member of numerous Program Committees, Program Chair and CoChair of several conferences including IEEE VR, ACM VRST, and ACM VRCAI. Daniel Thalmann has published more than 500 papers in Graphics, Animation, and Virtual Reality. He is coeditor of 30 books, and coauthor of several books including 'Crowd Simulation' (second edition 2012) and 'Stepping Into Virtual Reality' (2007), published by Springer. He received his PhD in Computer Science in 1977 from the University of Geneva and an Honorary Doctorate (Honoris Causa) from University Paul- Sabatier in Toulouse, France, in 2003. He also received the Eurographics Distinguished Career Award in 2010 and the 2012 Canadian Human Computer Communications Society Achievement Award. Jonathan Graves
Prof. Jonathan P. Graves is a Senior Scientist at EPFL and Honorary Visiting Professor at the University of York, UK. He achieved first class joint honours in Electronic Engineering and Mathematics from the University of Nottingham, UK in 1996. He completed his Ph.D. in Theoretical Mechanics from the University of Nottingham, UK, three years later in 1999. During his Ph.D. he was based in the Culham theory group of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority, developing kinetic descriptions of the internal kink instability, and participating in deuterium-tritium experimental analysis in the Joint European Torus. After a short time in industry, and a postdoc at Nottingham University, he took a position at the Swiss Plasma Center at EPFL, becoming a Senior Scientist in 2014, and became an Honorary Visiting Professor at the University of York, UK, in 2020. In 2015 he became a member of the EUROfusion Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) and a member of the EUROfusion DEMO Technical Advisory Group. He is on the editorial board for the journal Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, and in 2020 became Scientific Secretary of the Varenna-Lausanne International Workshop in Theory of Fusion Plasmas.
Tudor Ratiu
Citoyen des Etats-Unis, Tudor Ratiu est né en 1950 à Timisoara, Roumanie. Il a obtenu un diplôme en mathématiques en 1973 ainsi qu'un diplôme de maîtrise en mathématiques appliquées en 1974 à l'Université de Timisoara. Pour des raisons politiques il lui est interdit de poursuivre ses études et en 1975 il est obligé de quitter son pays. En 1980 il obtient un doctorat à l'Université de Californie à Berkeley avec une thèse en mécanique géométrique et est nommé professeur assistant de recherche T.H. Hildebrandt à l'Université de Michigan, Ann Arbor.
En 1983 il rejoint l'Université d'Arizona, Tucson, comme professeur associé et en 1987 l'Université de Californie, Santa Cruz, ou il est nommé professeur ordinaire en 1988. Il lui a été décerné une bourse postdoctorale du Fonds national scientifique américain, une bourse de la fondation A.P. Sloan, la chaire de recherche professoriale Miller à Berkeley, une bourse Fulbright et le prix allemand A. von Humboldt. Il a été professeur et chercheur invité dans plusieurs départements et instituts de recherche mathématiques du monde.
Les thèmes principaux de sa recherche sont l'analyse globale, la mécanique des fluides et du plasma, la dynamique hamiltonienne, la mécanique géométrique, la géométrie symplectique et de Poisson, la théorie de bifurcations et l'étude des systèmes complètement intégrables. Ses travaux concernent l'aspect mathématique de ces problèmes ainsi que leurs applications en physique et les sciences d'ingénieur. Il est auteur, en collaboration, de plusieurs livres de spécialité.
En 1997 il est nommé professeur ordinaire en analyse au Département de mathématiques et entre en fonction en juillet 1998.
Boi Faltings
Professor Faltings joined EPFL in 1987 as professor of Artificial Intelligence. He holds a PhD degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a diploma from the ETHZ. His research has spanned different areas of intelligent systems linked to model-based reasoning. In particular, he has contributed to qualitative spatial reasoning, case-based reasoning (especially for design problems), constraint satisfaction for design and logistics problems, multi-agent systems, and intelligent user interfaces. His current work is oriented towards multi-agent systems and social computing, using concepts of game theory, constraint optimization and machine learning. In 1999, Professor Faltings co-founded Iconomic Systems, a company that developed a new agent-based paradigm for travel e-commerce. He has since co-founded 5 other startup companies and advised several others. Prof. Faltings has published more than 150 refereed papers on his work, and participates regularly in program committees of all major conferences in the field. He has served as associate editor of of the major journals, including the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research (JAIR) and the Artificial Intelligence Journal. From 1996 to 1998, he served as head of the computer science department.
Pierre Dillenbourg
Ancien instituteur primaire, Pierre Dillenbourg obtient un master en Sciences de lEducation (Université de Mons, Belgique). Dans son projet de master en 1986, il est l'un des premiers au monde à appliquer les méthodes de 'machine learning' à l'éducation, afin de développer un 'self-improving teaching system'. Ceci lui permettra de débuter une thèse de doctorat en informatique à l'Université de Lancaster (UK) dans le domaine des applications éducatives de lintelligence artificielle. Il a été Maître dEnseignement et de Recherche à lUniversité de Genève. Il rejoint l'EPFL en 2012, où Il fut le directeur du Centre de Recherche sur l'Apprentissage, la formation et ses technologies(CRAFT), puis académique du Centre pour l'Education à l'Ere Digitale (CEDE) qui met en oeuvre la stratégie MOOC de l'EPFL (plus de 2 millions d'inscriptions). Il est actuellement professeur ordinaire en technologies de formation aux sein de la faculté Informatique et Communications et dirige laboratoire d'ergonomie éducative (CHILI). Depuis 2006, il a aussi été le directeur de DUAL-T, la 'leading house' dédiée aux technologies pour les systèmes de formation professionnelle duale. Il a fondé plusieurs start-ups dans l'éducation et rejoint plusieurs conseils d'administration. En 2017, Il a créé avec des collègues le 'Swiss EdTech Collider', un incubateur qui rassemble 80 start-ups dans le domaine des technologies éducatives. En 2018, ils ont lancé LEARN, le centre EPFL pour les sciences de l'apprentissage, lequel regroupe les initiatives locales en innovation éducative. Pierre est un 'inaugural fellow of the International Society of Learning Sciences'. Il est actuellement le Vice-Président Associé pour l'Education à l'EPFL.
