Oleg Yazyev
Prof. Oleg Yazyev (Олег Язев) was born in Simferopol, Crimean peninsula. He obtained his degree in chemistry from Moscow State University in 2003. He then joined Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) completing his PhD thesis in chemistry and chemical engineering in 2007. Next two years he has spent as a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Theoretical Physics (ITP) and the Institute for Numerical Research in the Physics of Materials (IRRMA) of the same institution. In 2009-2011 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Physics of the University of California, Berkeley and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. In September 2011 he started an independent research group supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation professorship grant. In 2012 he was awarded an ERC Starting grant. His current research focuses on theoretical and computational physics of the recently discovered Dirac fermion materials with strong emphasis on their prospective technological applications. Daniel Thalmann
Prof. Daniel Thalmann is Honorary Professor at EPFL and Director of Research development at MIRALab Sarl. He has been Visiting Professor at The Institute for Media Innovation (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore) from 2009 to 2017. He is a pioneer in research on Virtual Humans. His current research interests include Real-time Virtual Humans in Virtual Reality, crowd simulation, and 3D Interaction. Daniel Thalmann has been the Founder of The Virtual Reality Lab (VRlab) at EPFL, Switzerland, Professor at The University of Montreal and Visiting Professor/ Researcher at CERN, University of Nebraska, University of Tokyo, and National University of Singapore. Until October 2010, he was the President of the Swiss Association of Research in Information Technology and one Director of the European Research Consortium in Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM). He is coeditor-in-chief of the Journal of Computer Animation and Virtual Worlds, and member of the editorial board of 6 other journals. Daniel Thalmann was member of numerous Program Committees, Program Chair and CoChair of several conferences including IEEE VR, ACM VRST, and ACM VRCAI. Daniel Thalmann has published more than 500 papers in Graphics, Animation, and Virtual Reality. He is coeditor of 30 books, and coauthor of several books including 'Crowd Simulation' (second edition 2012) and 'Stepping Into Virtual Reality' (2007), published by Springer. He received his PhD in Computer Science in 1977 from the University of Geneva and an Honorary Doctorate (Honoris Causa) from University Paul- Sabatier in Toulouse, France, in 2003. Gérard Gremaud
Originaire du canton de Fribourg (Suisse), Gérard Gremaud est né en 1949. Après des études classiques au Collège St Michel à Fribourg, il obtient un diplôme d'ingénieur-physicien en 1974 et un doctorat ès science en 1981 à l'EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne). Ensuite, en tant qu'adjoint scientifique, il devient responsable de recherche à l'EPFL. Il est ensuite co-responsable du Laboratoire de Spectroscopie Mécanique à l'Institut de Physique de la Matière Complexe à l'EPFL. En 2002, il devient aussi chef du service des travaux pratiques et auditoires de physique de l'EPFL, qui occupe une dizaine de personnes. En 2005, il est nommé professeur titulaire à l'EPFL. Depuis 1976, il a assumé une cinquantaine de charges de cours dans les domaines de l'acoustique, des vibrations, de la physique métallurgique, de la thermodynamique, de la théorie des dislocations, de la métrologie, des travaux pratiques de physique, ainsi que des cours de base en physique (mécanique, thermodynamique et introduction à la physique quantique) et des démonstrations de physique. Depuis 2012, il est professeur honoraire de l'EPFL.
Ses domaines de recherche ont couvert des sujets variés comme la dynamique des dislocations, les transitions de phase structurales, les propriétés mécaniques et tribologiques à l'échelle nanoscopique et les propriétés mécaniques des milieux granulaires vibrés (spectroscopie mécanique). Dans ces domaines, il a dirigé ou co-dirigé une dizaine de thèses de doctorat. Il est auteur de nombreux modèles théoriques qui sont largement cités. Se spécialisant dans les techniques de spectroscopie acoustique, il a développé aussi plusieurs techniques de mesure originales, comme la technique de couplage acoustique (publications représentatives). Il est l'auteur de plus de 130 articles de recherche, de 13 chapitres de livre, de 6 publications de vulgarisation, de trois livres en tant qu'éditeur et de deux livres en tant qu'auteur .
En plus d'une quarantaine de présentations invitées au niveau international, il est membre du comité scientifique de la conférence internationale ICIFMS, et il a participé à l'organisation de plusieurs conférences et écoles d'été. Membre de plusieurs sociétés scientifiques. il contribue aussi comme « referee » pour de nombreux journaux scientifiques et plusieurs organisations de financement de la recherche. Il a aussi participé durant plusieurs années à deux petites sociétés anonymes en tant qu'administrateur ou président.
En 2011, Gérard Gremaud a reçu le prix Zener et la médaille d'or Zener. Cette distinction récompense des contributions exceptionnelles dans les domaines de la science des matériaux et de la physique.
