Faisant partie de la plaine d'Europe orientale, il a pour plus importante rivière la Desna, qui se jette dans le Dniepr.
EneidaEneida (Енеїда, Ukrainian for "Aeneid") is a Ukrainian burlesque poem, written by Ivan Kotliarevsky in 1798. This mock-heroic poem is considered to be the first literary work published wholly in the modern Ukrainian language. Although Ukrainian was an everyday language to millions of people in Ukraine, it was officially discouraged from literary use in the area controlled by Imperial Russia. Eneida is a parody of Virgil's Aeneid, where Kotliarevsky transformed the Trojan heroes into Zaporozhian Cossacks.

It began the process of artificial convergence of Ukrainian and Russian language traditions of orthography. Some norms that were rejected due to their absence in the Russian orthography were returned to the Ukrainian orthography of 2019. In the 1920s, Ukrainian linguistics flourished, and considerable work was done to standardize the Ukrainian literary language, scientific terminology, and dictionaries.
Ukrainian orthography of 2019The Ukrainian orthography of 2019 (Украї́нський право́пис 2019 ро́ку) is the current version of Ukrainian orthography, prepared by the Ukrainian National Orthography Commission. On , the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a new version of the orthography, and on , this document came into force. The composition of the Ukrainian National Commission, which prepared the draft orthography, was approved by the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on . A transitional phase is currently underway to implement the new version.
