Tibolone

Le tibolone est un médicament qui est utilisé dans l'hormonothérapie de la ménopause, dans le traitement de l'ostéoporose postménopausique et dans l'endométriose. Ce médicament est vendu entre autres sous la marque Livial et n'est pas formulé ou utilisé en combinaison avec d'autres médicaments. Il est administré par voie orale. Le tibolone a été développé dans les années 1960 et a été introduit pour la première fois aux Pays-Bas en 1988, puis au Royaume-Uni en 1991.

Desogestrel

Desogestrel is a progestin medication which is used in birth control pills for women. It is also used in the treatment of menopausal symptoms in women. The medication is available and used alone or in combination with an estrogen. It is taken by mouth. Side effects of desogestrel include menstrual irregularities, headaches, nausea, breast tenderness, mood changes, acne, increased hair growth, and others. Desogestrel is a progestin, or a synthetic progestogen, and hence is an agonist of the progesterone receptor, the biological target of progestogens like progesterone.

Norelgestromin

Norelgestromin, or norelgestromine, sold under the brand names Evra and Ortho Evra among others, is a progestin medication which is used as a method of birth control for women. The medication is available in combination with an estrogen and is not available alone. It is used as a patch that is applied to the skin. Side effects of the combination of an estrogen and norelgestromin include menstrual irregularities, headaches, nausea, abdominal pain, breast tenderness, mood changes, and others.

Prasterone

Prasterone, also known as dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and sold under the brand names Intrarosa, Diandrone, and Gynodian Depot among others, is a medication as well as over-the-counter dietary supplement which is used to correct DHEA deficiency due to adrenal insufficiency or old age, as a component of menopausal hormone therapy, to treat painful sexual intercourse due to vaginal atrophy, and to prepare the cervix for childbirth, among other uses. It is taken by mouth, by application to the skin, in through the vagina, or by injection into muscle.

Gestrinone

Gestrinone, sold under the brand names Dimetrose and Nemestran among others, is a medication which is used in the treatment of endometriosis. It has also been used to treat other conditions such as uterine fibroids and heavy menstrual bleeding and has been investigated as a method of birth control. Gestrinone is used alone and is not formulated in combination with other medications. It is taken by mouth or in through the vagina.

Estriol

Lestriol ou œstriol (E3) est un des trois principaux œstrogènes produits dans le corps humain. Ce n'est qu'au cours de la grossesse qu'il est produit en quantités significatives vu qu'il est produit par le placenta. Les taux d'estriol chez les femmes non-enceintes ne changent pas beaucoup après la ménopause, et les taux ne diffèrent alors pas beaucoup de ceux rencontrés chez les hommes. Noretynodrel

Noretynodrel, or norethynodrel, sold under the brand name Enovid among others, is a progestin medication which was previously used in birth control pills and in the treatment of gynecological disorders but is now no longer marketed. It was available both alone and in combination with an estrogen. The medication is taken by mouth. Noretynodrel is a progestin, or a synthetic progestogen, and hence is an agonist of the progesterone receptor, the biological target of progestogens like progesterone.

Tamoxifène

Le tamoxifène est un modulateur sélectif des récepteurs des œstrogènes utilisé sous forme orale dans le cancer du sein. Il est pour l'instant le traitement le plus vendu dans le cadre du traitement de ce cancer. Il est utilisé dans le traitement de cancers du sein en phase précoce ou avancée chez les femmes pré- et post-ménopausées. Le tamoxifène est commercialisé, entre autres, sous la marque Nolvadex. Dans certains pays, il est vendu comme médicament générique.

Megestrol acetate

Megestrol acetate (MGA), sold under the brand name Megace among others, is a progestin medication which is used mainly as an appetite stimulant to treat wasting syndromes such as cachexia. It is also used to treat breast cancer and endometrial cancer, and has been used in birth control. MGA is generally formulated alone, although it has been combined with estrogens in birth control formulations. It is usually taken by mouth.

Pilule combinée

La pilule combinée ou pilule œstroprogestative est, avec la pilule progestative, la troisième méthode contraceptive la plus utilisée au monde après la stérilisation et le DIU. Elle contient les deux hormones de synthèse (un œstrogène et un progestatif, qui imitent les hormones féminines que sont l'œstradiol et la progestérone, sécrétées naturellement par les ovaires de la femme), qui sont à l'origine du blocage de l'ovulation induit par la prise de la pilule combinée.
