Ethisterone

Ethisterone, also known as ethinyltestosterone, pregneninolone, and anhydrohydroxyprogesterone and formerly sold under the brand names Proluton C and Pranone among others, is a progestin medication which was used in the treatment of gynecological disorders but is now no longer available. It was used alone and was not formulated in combination with an estrogen. The medication is taken by mouth. Side effects of ethisterone include masculinization among others.

Dutastéride

Le dutastéride, vendu entre autres sous le nom de marque Avodart. Est un médicament principalement utilisé pour traiter les symptômes d'une hypertrophie de la prostate . Quelques mois peuvent être nécessaires avant que les bénéfices ne se manifestent. Il est également utilisé pour la perte de cheveux du cuir chevelu chez les hommes et dans le cadre de l'hormonothérapie chez les femmes transgenres . Il est pris par voie orale.

Acétate de médroxyprogestérone

L’acétate de médroxyprogestérone (en anglais Medroxyprogesterone acetate ou MPA), connu aussi sous le nom acétate de 17α-hydroxy-6α-méthylprogestérone, ou Depo-Provera est une forme synthétique de progestérone. Il est utilisé principalement comme contraceptif mais sert aussi pour le traitement de l'endométriose. Ses actions pharmacologiques sur le système endocrinien sont : L'inhibition des gonadotrophines hypophysaires : hormone folliculostimulante (FSH) et hormone lutéinisante (LH).

Medrogestone

Medrogestone, sold under the brand name Colprone among others, is a progestin medication which has been used in menopausal hormone therapy and in the treatment of gynecological disorders. It is available both alone and in combination with an estrogen. It is taken by mouth. Medrogestone is a progestin, or a synthetic progestogen, and hence is an agonist of the progesterone receptor, the biological target of progestogens like progesterone. It has weak antiandrogenic, glucocorticoid, and antimineralocorticoid activity and no other important hormonal activity.

Danazol

Danazol, sold as Danocrine and other brand names, is a medication used in the treatment of endometriosis, fibrocystic breast disease, hereditary angioedema and other conditions. It is taken by mouth. The use of danazol is limited by masculinizing side effects such as acne, excessive hair growth, and voice deepening. Danazol has a complex mechanism of action, and is characterized as a weak androgen and anabolic steroid, a weak progestogen, a weak antigonadotropin, a weak steroidogenesis inhibitor, and a functional antiestrogen.

Feminizing hormone therapy

Feminizing hormone therapy, also known as transfeminine hormone therapy, is hormone therapy and sex reassignment therapy to change the secondary sex characteristics of transgender people from masculine or androgynous to feminine. It is a common type of transgender hormone therapy (another being masculinizing hormone therapy) and is used to treat transgender women and non-binary transfeminine individuals. Some, in particular intersex people but also some non-transgender people, take this form of therapy according to their personal needs and preferences.

Estradiol benzoate

Estradiol benzoate (EB), sold under the brand name Progynon-B among others, is an estrogen medication which is used in hormone therapy for menopausal symptoms and low estrogen levels in women, in hormone therapy for transgender women, and in the treatment of gynecological disorders. It is also used in the treatment of prostate cancer in men. Estradiol benzoate is used in veterinary medicine as well. When used clinically, the medication is given by injection into muscle usually two to three times per week.

Progestogen (medication)

A progestogen, also referred to as a progestagen, gestagen, or gestogen, is a type of medication which produces effects similar to those of the natural female sex hormone progesterone in the body. A progestin is a synthetic progestogen. Progestogens are used most commonly in hormonal birth control and menopausal hormone therapy. They can also be used in the treatment of gynecological conditions, to support fertility and pregnancy, to lower sex hormone levels for various purposes, and for other indications.

Alloprégnanolone

L'alloprégnanolone, 3α-hydroxy-5α-prégnane-20-one, 3α,5α-tétrahydroprogestérone ou THP, est une hormone présente dans le sang et le cerveau. Elle provient du métabolisme de la progestérone. De récentes études ont montré qu'elle exerçait un effet anxiolytique au niveau central. Cet effet est dû à la fixation de l'hormone au récepteurs GABA-A. Par conséquent, on lui associe aussi des effets anticonvulsivants, hypnotiques, sédatifs, analgésiques et anesthésiques. Un pic d'activité intervient environ une heure après un stress.

Premarin (médicament)

Le Premarin est un médicament à base d'œstrogènes conjugués, utilisé pour traiter les troubles de la ménopause chez la femme. Son nom vient de l'anglais pregnant mare urine désignant l'ingrédient principal, l'urine de jument gestante. Il a été mis sur le marché pour la première fois par l’entreprise Pfizer en 1941. D'autres médicaments utilisent des œstrogènes conjugués d'origine équine, comme le Premplus, commercialisé par le même entreprise, le Climopax et le Duavive.
