Sutherland (Écosse)
Sutherland (Cataibh) is a historic county, registration county and lieutenancy area in the Highlands of Scotland. Its county town is Dornoch. Sutherland borders Caithness and Moray Firth to the east, Ross-shire and Cromartyshire (later combined into Ross and Cromarty) to the south and the Atlantic to the north and west. Like its southern neighbour Ross-shire, Sutherland has some of the most dramatic scenery in Europe, especially on its western fringe where the mountains meet the sea.
Caithness
Caithness (Gallaibh ˈkal̪ɣɪv; Caitnes; Katanes) is a historic county, registration county and lieutenancy area of Scotland. Caithness has a land boundary with the historic county of Sutherland to the west and is otherwise bounded by sea. The land boundary follows a watershed and is crossed by two roads (the A9 and the A836) and by one railway (the Far North Line). Across the Pentland Firth, ferries link Caithness with Orkney, and Caithness also has an airport at Wick. The Pentland Firth island of Stroma is within Caithness.
Inverness (Écosse)
Inverness (en Inbhir Nis) est le centre administratif du council area du Highland, et était auparavant la capitale du comté de Inverness-shire et de l'ancienne région du Highland (ainsi que du district d'Inverness au sein de cette région). Elle est, de manière plus générale, la plus grande ville et le pôle d'attraction de toute la région des Highlands. La ville, qui a le statut de cité, s’est autoproclamée capitale des Highlands. Inverness est située à l’embouchure de la rivière Ness, au nord-est de l’Écosse.
Highland (council area)
Le Highland (Highland Council Area) est la plus grande des 32 divisions administratives d'Écosse (Sgìre Comhairle na Gàidhealtachd en gaélique écossais), ainsi que de tout le Royaume-Uni. Avant d'être un council area, le secteur était, du au , une région d'Écosse, exactement identique géographiquement et dont le siège était déjà Inverness.
