Gerhard Johann David von Scharnhorst
Gerhard Johann David von Scharnhorst (né le à Bordenau, aujourd’hui un quartier de Neustadt am Rübenberge dans le Hanovre ; mort le à Prague) est un général prussien. Avec le comte August von Gneisenau, il réforma de façon décisive l’armée prussienne en instituant notamment une armée de réserve, qui augmentait notablement l’effectif potentiellement mobilisable. Il abolit en 1807 les châtiments corporels dans l’armée.
Zivildienst
Zivildienst is the German denomination for the alternative civilian service for conscripted persons who are conscientious objectors to fulfill their national service, typically in the fields of social work (e.g. hospitals, retirement homes, emergency medical services) and, although rarely, environmental protection, agriculture, and public administration. As such, it is exempt from the general ban of forced labor by the European Convention on Human Rights.
Bevin Boys
Bevin Boys were young British men conscripted to work in coal mines between December 1943 and March 1948, to increase the rate of coal production, which had declined through the early years of World War II. The programme was named after Ernest Bevin, the Labour Party politician who was Minister of Labour and National Service in the wartime coalition government. Chosen by lot as 10% of all male conscripts aged 18–25 (plus some volunteering as an alternative to military conscription) nearly 48,000 Bevin Boys performed vital and dangerous civil conscription service in coal mines.
Classe (armée)

Les classes sont la formation de base des nouvelles recrues dans l'Armée, son contenu variant suivant les corps d'armée et les unités. Dans la Marine française, la durée des classes est de quatre semaines pour les EILD, 3 semaines pour les EILD issus de la filière post BEP, 16 semaines pour les élèves maistranciers. Les jeunes recrues reçoivent une formation militaire (organisation, grades, ordre serré, maniement des armes, droit militaire, etc), et une formation maritime (matelotage, notions de survie, etc].
