Shaw and Crompton
Shaw and Crompton is a civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, Greater Manchester, England, which contains the town of Shaw and lies on the River Beal at the foothills of the South Pennines. It is located north of Oldham, south-east of Rochdale and north-east of Manchester. Historically in Lancashire, the area shows evidence of ancient British and Anglian activity. In the Middle Ages, Crompton formed a small township of scattered woods, farmsteads, moorland and swamp.
Rochdale (ancient parish)
Rochdale was an ecclesiastical parish of early-medieval origin in northern England, administered from the Church of St Chad, Rochdale. At its zenith, it occupied of land amongst the South Pennines, and straddled the historic county boundary between Lancashire and the West Riding of Yorkshire. To the north and north-west was the parish of Whalley; to the southwest was the parish of Bury; to the south was Middleton and Prestwich-cum-Oldham.
Denshaw
Denshaw is a village in the civil parish of Saddleworth in the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, in Greater Manchester, England. It lies by the source of the River Tame, high amongst the Pennines above the village of Delph, northeast of Oldham, north-northwest of Uppermill and Shaw and Crompton. It has a population of around 500. Historically a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Denshaw and its surroundings have provided archaeological evidence of Stone and Bronze Age activity in the area.
Newhey
Newhey (archaically New Hey) is a village near the town of Milnrow in the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, in Greater Manchester, England. It lies at the foot of the South Pennines, by Junction 21 of the M62 motorway and on the River Beal, east-southeast of Rochdale, northeast of Manchester. Historically a part of Lancashire, Newhey was anciently a hamlet within the township of Butterworth. It was described in 1828 as "consisting of several ranges of cottages and two public houses".
Rochdale

Située le long de la rivière Roch, elle est la principale agglomération du district métropolitain de Rochdale, dans le Grand Manchester. Faisant partie historiquement du Lancashire, Rochdale s'imposa au comme un centre majeur de tissage : au cœur du processus qui donna naissance à la Révolution industrielle, elle fut une des premières villes industrialisées au monde. Son premier maire fut Jacob Bright (1856-1857).
Saddleworth
Saddleworth is a civil parish of the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham in Greater Manchester, England. It comprises several villages and hamlets as well as suburbs of Oldham on the west side of the Pennine hills. Areas include Austerlands, Delph, Denshaw, Diggle, Dobcross, Friezland, Grasscroft, Greenfield, Grotton, Lydgate, Scouthead, Springhead and Uppermill. Saddleworth lies east of Oldham and northeast of Manchester. It is broadly rural and had a population of 25,460 at the 2011 Census, making it one of the larger civil parishes in the United Kingdom.
County Borough of Rochdale
Rochdale was, from 1856 to 1974, a local government district coterminate with the town of Rochdale in the northwest of England. In January 1856 the inhabitant householders of the Parliamentary Borough of Rochdale, Lancashire, petitioned the Privy Council for the grant of a charter of incorporation under the Municipal Corporations Act constituting the town as a municipal borough. The petition was successful and the charter was granted in September 1856.
Butterworth (ancient township)
Butterworth was a township occupying the southeastern part of the parish of Rochdale, in the hundred of Salford, Lancashire, England. It encompassed of land in the South Pennines which spanned the settlements of Belfield, Bleaked-gate-cum-Roughbank, Butterworth Hall, Clegg, Haughs, Hollingworth, Kitcliffe, Lowhouse, Milnrow, Newhey, Ogden, Rakewood, Smithy Bridge, Tunshill and Wildhouse. It extended to the borders of Crompton to the south, and to the highest points of Bleakedgate Moor and Clegg Moor, up to the ridge of Blackstone Edge, to the east, where its boundary was the old county boundary between Lancashire and Yorkshire.
Autoroute M62 (Grande-Bretagne)
L’autoroute britannique M62 (M62 motorway) est une autoroute ouest-est qui traverse les Pennines dans le Nord de l'Angleterre, reliant les villes de Liverpool et Kingston-upon-Hull via Manchester et Leeds. La route fait partie des routes européennes E20 (qui relie Shannon à Saint-Pétersbourg) et E22 (qui relie Holyhead à Ichim). Elle mesure de long. Sur elle recoupe la M60 aux alentours de Manchester. Le premier projet de construction de la M62 fut présenté dans les années 1930, et fut d'abord conçu comme celui de deux routes séparées.
Rochdale Canal
Le Rochdale canal est un canal d'Angleterre, qui tire son nom d'une ville de la banlieue de Manchester. D'une longueur de , il reliait les nombreuses usines de coton de la ville ainsi que le Canal de Bridgewater et le Sowerby Bridge, dans l'ouest du Yorkshire. L'idée du canal était de doubler le Canal Leeds-Liverpool, mis en projet dix ans plus tôt, par un parcours plus court, même s'il nécessitait plus de travaux et le recours à un long tunnel.
