Viacheslav Snigirev was born in 1996 in Moscow. As a holder of the 1st rank degree in Lomonosov Olympiad in Physics 2014 and of the golden medal for the academic achivements in high school, he was accepted to Lomonosov Moscow State University as a bachelor student of the Department of Physics in the same year. In 2018 he defended his bachelor thesis Ultrafast dynamics of light scattering in direct-bandgap semiconductor nanoparticles under supervision of Prof. Andrey A. Fedyanin and Dr. Alexander S. Shorokhov. He then continued to carry out research under their supervision in the area of active all-dielectric metaphotonics and joined the master program Quantum Electronics and Quantum Optics at the same university, finishing it in 2020 with the master thesis title Photo- and electrically induced modulation of optical response of Mie-resonant gallium arsenide nanoparticles and metasurfaces. The both degrees are degrees with honours containing only excellent grades. The scientific results obtained within the framework of his bachelor and master programs were presented on international conferences CLEO Europe and METANANO.

Photonic assembly tunable via the pockels effect and method for use in frequency-modulated lidar

A photonic assembly, a laser setup comprising said photonic assembly and a method for performing frequency-modulated continuous-wave light detection and ranging using said laser setup are disclosed. The photonic assembly (1) comprises an active photonic chip (10), a photonic modulator chip (2) comprising a photonic circuit arrangement, and a tuning arrangement comprising a modulation element (33) having a thickness of 10 micrometers or less. The active photonic chip (10) and the photonic modulator chip (2) are optically coupled such, that injection radiation at an optical feedback wavelength is generated, which defines at least one optical lasing wavelength at which the optical radiation is emitted by the active photonic chip (10). The modulation element (33) is arranged such, that an actuation of the modulation element (33) tunes the optical feedback wavelength via the Pockels effect, such, that a tuning of the optical feedback wavelength entails a tuning of the optical lasing wavelength.

Programmable Silicon Nitride Photonic Integrated Circuits

Silicon Nitride (Si3N4) photonic integrated circuits (PICs) have emerged as core technology in a variety of applications ranging from LIDAR to quantum control and computing. However, the need for high-speed, low-voltage tuning and modulation has been a long standing challenge because Si3N4 lacks electro-optic effect. In this work, we demonstrate power efficient (nW) and fast (sub-mu s) piezoelectric tuning of Si3N4 optical microring resonators by monolithically integrating Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) piezoMEMS actuators. We achieve, for the first time, the co-integration of PZT and thermal actuators, enabling the tuning of optical resonances over one free spectral range (FSR). The programmability is demonstrated by aligning two optical resonators fabricated on separate chips, which is the first step towards fiber-optic connected optomechanical sensors and computing networks. We further show acousto-optic modulation (AOM) of Si3N4 photonics using the High-overtone Bulk Acoustic Resonators (HBAR) excited by PZT actuators with modulation frequency up to 2 GHz.

Lithium-Niobate-Based Frequency-Agile Integrated Lasers

We demonstrate narrow- linewidth ultrafast tunable integrated lasers based on heterogeneously integrated thin-film lithium niobate on ultra-low loss silicon nitride integrated photonic circuits. Using self-injection locking of a hybrid microresonator, we achieve a tuning speed of > 10 peta-Hertz-per-second. We also perform FMCW LiDAR ranging experiments. (C) 2022 The Author(s)
