Base de données orientée objetEn informatique, une base de données à objets (anglais object database) est un stock d'informations groupées sous forme de collections d'objets persistants. Une base de données est un ensemble d'informations connexes stockées dans un dispositif informatique. Dans une base de données à objets les informations sont regroupées sous forme d'objets : un conteneur logique qui englobe des informations et des traitements relatifs à une chose du monde réel.
Optimistic replicationOptimistic replication, also known as lazy replication, is a strategy for replication, in which replicas are allowed to diverge. Traditional pessimistic replication systems try to guarantee from the beginning that all of the replicas are identical to each other, as if there was only a single copy of the data all along. Optimistic replication does away with this in favor of eventual consistency, meaning that replicas are guaranteed to converge only when the system has been quiesced for a period of time.
In-memory databaseAn in-memory database (IMDB, or main memory database system (MMDB) or memory resident database) is a database management system that primarily relies on main memory for computer data storage. It is contrasted with database management systems that employ a disk storage mechanism. In-memory databases are faster than disk-optimized databases because disk access is slower than memory access and the internal optimization algorithms are simpler and execute fewer CPU instructions.
Ingres (base de données)Ingres ou Actian est un système de gestion de base de données (SGBD) relationnel. Ingres signifie : INtelligent Graphic RElational System. Son concepteur, Michael Stonebraker, décida de recommencer le développement à partir de zéro en 1985, mais en continuant à développer les idées d’Ingres. Il se lança dans un projet post-Ingres, qui fut d'abord nommé Postgres, puis, à partir de 1995, PostgreSQL. Détenu entre 1994 et 2005 par Computer Associates, et revendu depuis à un fonds d'investissement, Ingres est devenu un logiciel libre en 2004 ; sa licence est depuis lors la licence publique générale GNU.

Shard (database architecture)A database shard, or simply a shard, is a horizontal partition of data in a database or search engine. Each shard is held on a separate database server instance, to spread load. Some data within a database remains present in all shards, but some appear only in a single shard. Each shard (or server) acts as the single source for this subset of data. Horizontal partitioning is a database design principle whereby rows of a database table are held separately, rather than being split into columns (which is what normalization and vertical partitioning do, to differing extents).
Open-source licenseOpen-source licenses facilitate free and open-source software (FOSS) development. Intellectual property (IP) laws restrict the modification and sharing of creative works. Free and open-source software licenses use these existing legal structures for the inverse purpose of granting freedoms that promote sharing and collaboration. They grant the recipient the rights to use the software, examine the source code, modify it, and distribute the modifications. These licenses target computer software where source code can be necessary to create modifications.
Embedded databaseAn embedded database system is a database management system (DBMS) which is tightly integrated with an application software; it is embedded in the application. It is a broad technology category that includes: database systems with differing application programming interfaces (SQL as well as proprietary, native APIs) database architectures (client-server and in-process) storage modes (on-disk, in-memory, and combined) database models (relational, object-oriented, entity–attribute–value model, network/CODASYL) target markets The term embedded database can be confusing because only a small subset of embedded database products are used in real-time embedded systems such as telecommunications switches and consumer electronics.
Open-source-software movementThe open-source-software movement is a movement that supports the use of open-source licenses for some or all software, as part of the broader notion of open collaboration. The open-source movement was started to spread the concept/idea of open-source software. Programmers who support the open-source-movement philosophy contribute to the open-source community by voluntarily writing and exchanging programming code for software development.
