Threshold potentialIn electrophysiology, the threshold potential is the critical level to which a membrane potential must be depolarized to initiate an action potential. In neuroscience, threshold potentials are necessary to regulate and propagate signaling in both the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS). Most often, the threshold potential is a membrane potential value between –50 and –55 mV, but can vary based upon several factors.
Ocean temperatureThe ocean temperature varies by depth, geographical location and season. Both the temperature and salinity of ocean water differs. Warm surface water is generally saltier than the cooler deep or polar waters; in polar regions, the upper layers of ocean water are cold and fresh. Deep ocean water is cold, salty water found deep below the surface of Earth's oceans. This water has a very uniform temperature, around 0-3 °C. The ocean temperature also depends on the amount of solar radiation falling on its surface.
Conduction thermiqueLa conduction thermique (ou diffusion thermique) est un mode de transfert thermique provoqué par une différence de température entre deux régions d'un même milieu, ou entre deux milieux en contact, et se réalisant sans déplacement global de matière (à l'échelle macroscopique) par opposition à la convection qui est un autre mode de transfert thermique. Elle peut s'interpréter comme la transmission de proche en proche de l'agitation thermique : un atome (ou une molécule) cède une partie de son énergie cinétique à l'atome voisin.
Température de surface de la merLa température de surface de la mer est la température dans une couche plus ou moins importante près de la surface de la mer qui peut varier selon la méthode de mesure. C'est au niveau de cette couche que se produisent les interactions entre l'océan et l'atmosphère qui gouvernent le climat et cette température est donc critique sur le développement des systèmes météorologiques. Elle l'est également sur le type et la quantité d'organismes vivants dans les profondeurs de la mer.
Operating temperatureAn operating temperature is the allowable temperature range of the local ambient environment at which an electrical or mechanical device operates. The device will operate effectively within a specified temperature range which varies based on the device function and application context, and ranges from the minimum operating temperature to the maximum operating temperature (or peak operating temperature). Outside this range of safe operating temperatures the device may fail. It is one component of reliability engineering.
Potentiel d'actionvignette|Le déplacement d'un potentiel d'action le long d'un axone, modifie la polarité de la membrane cellulaire. Les canaux ioniques sodium Na+ et potassium K+ voltage-dépendants s'ouvrent puis se ferment quand la membrane atteint le potentiel seuil, en réponse à un signal en provenance d'un autre neurone. À l'initiation du potentiel d'action, le canal Na+ s'ouvre et le Na+ extracellulaire rentre dans l'axone, provoquant une dépolarisation. Ensuite la repolarisation se produit lorsque le canal K+ s'ouvre et le K+ intracellulaire sort de l'axone.
