Differential Branching Fraction and Angular Analysis of the Decay B-0 -> K*(0)mu(+)mu(-)

The angular distributions and the partial branching fraction of the decay B-0 -> K*(0)mu(+)mu(-) are studied by using an integrated luminosity of 0.37 fb(-1) of data collected with the LHCb detector. The forward-backward asymmetry of the muons, A(FB), the fraction of longitudinal polarization, F-L, and the partial branching fraction dB/dq(2) are determined as a function of the dimuon invariant mass. The measurements are in good agreement with the standard model predictions and are the most precise to date. In the dimuon invariant mass squared range 1.00-6.00 GeV2/c(4), the results are A(FB) = -0.06(-0.14)(+0.13) +/- 0.04, F-L = 0.55 +/- 0.10 +/- 0.03, and dB/dq(2) = (0.42 +/- 0.06 +/- 0.03) X 10(-7) c(4)/GeV2. In each case, the first error is statistical and the second systematic.

The ratio of branching fractions of the radiative B decays B-0 -> K-*0 gamma and B-s(0) -> phi gamma has been measured using an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb(-1) of pp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 7 TeV. The value obtained is B(B-0 -> K-*0 gamma)/B(B-s(0) -> phi gamma) = 1.23 +/- 0.06 (stat.) +/- 0.04 (syst.) +/- 0.10 (f(s)/f(d)), where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty and the third is associated with the ratio of fragmentation fractions f(s)/f(d). Using the world average value for B(B-0 -> K-*0 gamma), the branching fraction B(B-s(0) -> phi gamma) is measured to be (3.5 +/- 0.4) x 10(-5). The direct CP asymmetry in B-0 -> K-*0 gamma decays has also been measured with the same data and found to be A(CP)(B-0 -> K-*0 gamma) = (0.8 +/- 1.7 (stat.) +/- 0.9 (syst.))%. The angular distribution and differential branching fraction of the decay B-0 -> K*(0)mu(+)mu(-) are studied using a data sample, collected by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb(-1). Several angular observables are measured in bins of the dimuon invariant mass squared, q(2). A first measurement of the zero-crossing point of the forward-backward asymmetry of the dimuon system is also presented. The zero-crossing point is measured to be q(0)(2) = 4.9 +/- 0.9 GeV2/c(4), where the uncertainty is the sum of statistical and systematic uncertainties. The results are consistent with the Standard Model predictions.

The CP-violating charge asymmetry in B-+/- -> phi K-+/- decays is measured in a sample of pp collisions at 7 TeV centre-of-mass energy, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb-1 collected by the LHCb experiment. The result is A(CP)(B-+/- -> phi K-+/-) = 0.022 +/- 0.021 +/- 0.009, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. In addition, a search for the B-+/- -> phi pi(+/-) decay mode is performed, using the B-+/- -> phi K-+/- decay rate for normalization. An upper limit on the branching fraction B(B-+/- -> phi pi(+/-)) < 1.5 x 10(-7) is set at 90% confidence level. (C) 2013 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
