Structural elucidation and antibacterial activity of new dialkylstannyl- and chlorodialkylstannyl(IV) 3,4-dihydroisoquinoline-2-(1H)-carbodithioate

In extension with growing concern to develop new antimicrobial organometallic drugs, an attempt has been made to synthesize five new antimicrobial organotin(IV) carbodithioates with general formula, Me2SnClL (1), Me2SnL2 (2), Et2SnClL (3), Et2SnL2 (4), Bu2SnClL (5), Bu2SnL2 (6), (where L = Sodium 3,4-dihydroisoquinoline-2-(1H)-carbodithioate). Compounds have been synthesized by refluxing organotin(IV) chlorides with ligand in dry toluene for 7-8 h. Compound 1, 3 and 5 exhibited Penta coordination, while 2, 4 and 6 showed hexacoordination in solid state, as evident from the difference obtained between symmetric and asymmetric CSS stretches in IR spectra. Solid-state structures of 1 was further attested by single crystal analysis as distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometry. H-1-, C-13- and Sn-119- NMR spectroscopy was used to assess the geometry of the compounds in solution state. It was observed that 1, 3, 4 and 5 completely dissociated in solution and showed tetrahedral geometry, whereas 2 and 6 exhibit pentacoordinate geometry after partial dissociation in solution. Synthesis and structural elucidation of bioactive triorganotin (IV) derivatives of sodium deoxycholate

Trimethyl (1), tributyl (2), and triphenyl tin (3) derivatives of sodium (R)-4-((3R, 5R, 8R, 9S, 10S, 12S, 13R, 14S, 17R)-3,12-dihydroxy-10,13-dimethyl-hexadecahydro-1H-cyclopenta[a] phenanthren-17-yl)pentanoate (sodium deoxycholate) were synthesized by refluxing sodium deoxycholate with the corresponding triorganotin(IV) chloride in 1 : 1M ratio. All the three compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, H-1, C-13, Sn-119 NMR, and X-ray diffraction studies. From FT-IR spectra,Delta nu values proposed bridging or chelating behavior of the ligand. The three compounds gave a trigonal bipyramidal geometry in the solid state and tetrahedral geometry in solution. Single crystal of 1 showed polymeric trigonal bipyramidal geometry. Synthesized compounds obtained were screened for their antimicrobial and antitumor activities against A2780 cell line. Results revealed that only 2 showed significant antibacterial activity. However, all the three compounds exhibited promising antifungal and anticancer activities.

Silver Complexes of Cyclic Hexachlorotriphosphazene

The first solid-state structures of complexed P3N3X6 (X=halogen) are reported for X=Cl. The compounds were obtained from P3N3Cl6 and Ag[Al(OR)4] salts in CH2Cl2/CS2 solution. The very weakly coordinating anion with R=C(CF3)3 led to the salt Ag(P3N3Cl6)2+[Al(OR)4]- (1), but the more strongly coordinating anion with R=C(CH3)(CF3)2 gave the molecular adduct (P3N3Cl6)AgAl(OR)4 (3). Crystals of [Ag(CH2Cl2)(P3N3Cl6)2]+[Al(OR)4]- (2), in which Ag+ is coordinated by two phosphazene and one CH2Cl2 ligands, were isolated from CH2Cl2 solution. The three compounds were characterized by their X-ray structures, and 1 and 3 also by NMR and vibrational spectroscopy. Solution and solid-state 31P NMR investigations in combination with quantum chemically calculated chemical shifts show that the 31P NMR shifts of free and silver-coordinated P3N3Cl6 differ by less than 3 ppm and indicate a very weakly bound P3N3Cl6 ligand in 1. The experimental silver ion affinity (SIA) of the phosphazene ligand was derived from the solid-state structure of 3. The SIA shows that (PNCl2)3 is only a slightly stronger Lewis base than P4 and CH2Cl2, while other ligands such as S8, P4S3, toluene, and 1,2-Cl2C2H4 are far stronger ligands towards the silver cation. The energetics of the complexes were assessed with inclusion of entropic, thermal, and solvation contributions (MP2/TZVPP, COSMO). The formation of the cations in 1, 2, and 3 was calculated to be exergonic by DeltarG°(CH2Cl2)=-97, -107, and -27 kJ mol-1, respectively. All prepared complexes are thermally stable; formation of P3N3Cl5+ and AgCl was not observed, even at 60 °C in an ultrasonic bath. Therefore, the formation of P3N3Cl5+ was investigated by quantum chemical calculations. Other possible reaction pathways that could lead to the successful preparation of P3N3X5+ salts were defined.

Described are the synthesis and characterization of two, potentially tetradentate, N2S2 Schiff-base ligands, containing a disulfide bond, N,N'-bis(3-phenylprop-2-en-l-ylidene)-2,2'-disulfanediyldianiline (L-1) and N,N'-bis(3,3-diphenylprop-2-en-1-ylidene)-2,2'-disulfanediyldianiline (L-2), and their reaction with Zn2+. Surprisingly, both L-1 and L-2 undergo reductive disulfide bond scission upon reaction with Zn2+ in alcoholic media to give, under alcohol oxidation, the respective Zn(NS)2 complexes Zn(L-3)(2) (1) and Zn(L-4)(2) (2), where the L-3 and L-4 are the respective bidentate thiolate-imine anions. The ligands L-1 and L-2 and the complexes I and 2 have been characterized spectroscopically, and the crystal and molecular structures of the two complexes have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The coordination geometry around Zn(II) centers in both complexes is a distorted tetrahedron. In addition, DFT calculations (B3LYP/LANL2DZ/6-311++G(d,p)) support the structure of I. Cyclic voltammetric studies demonstrate that Zn(II) shifts the reduction potential of the disulfide ligands L-1 and L-2 to less negative values thus making them more susceptible to reductive cleavage of the disulfide bond. The results of semi-empirical PM6 calculations offer key insight into the nature of the transition state for this reaction. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
