The SULTAN test facility has been pivotal in qualifying forced-flow conductors in the last three decades. However, the rising demand for conductors for high-field magnets calls for a test facility able to provide a background magnetic field beyond the 11 T offered by SULTAN. In this context, the Swiss Plasma Center proposes an upgrade of the EDIPO test facility (EDIPO 2), which will provide a 15 T background field within a 144×144 mm² aperture and allow variable-temperature, high-current testing of superconductor samples. The proposed magnet layout features two key innovations: the use of a two-stage Nb3Sn cable to increase the operating current and reduce the magnet inductance, and the exclusive use of planar racetrack coils to generate the required field, simplifying manufacturing and assembly. The magnet design is justified with detailed 3D magneto-static, mechanical, and quench protection analyses.
