This lecture covers radiotracer techniques, which involve adding micro-amounts of radionuclides or labeled compounds to systems to trace the fate, transport, or chemical reactions of elements or compounds. It discusses the basics, applications, and choice of radiotracers, as well as their detection, handling, and industrial applications. The lecture explores the use of radiotracers in flow studies, including flow rate measurements and residence time distribution. It also delves into the fields of applications such as investigating transport processes, corrosion, chemical kinetics, diffusion, and pathways in biological systems. Case studies on fluidized catalytic cracking units and blast furnace efficiency are presented.
