This lecture covers the concept of one-dimensional kinematics, introducing the notion of curvilinear abscissa, scalar velocity, and acceleration. It explains how to calculate average scalar velocity and acceleration, as well as how to determine instantaneous scalar velocity and acceleration. The lecture also discusses the relationship between scalar velocity and displacement, and how acceleration affects velocity. Special cases, such as objects at rest or moving with constant velocity, are also explored.
