This lecture introduces the human genome as a history book, a shop manual for building cells, and a textbook of medicine. It covers the history of genetics from William Harvey to Mendel, the theory of evolution by Darwin, and the discovery of DNA. Key concepts include the chromosomal theory of inheritance, ploidy variations, mitosis, meiosis, and the structure of DNA. The lecture also explains the genetic code, gene expression, proteins, alleles, and genetic variation. Recombinant DNA technology, genetic engineering in agriculture, and genetics in medicine are discussed, along with the implications of the genomic era on society.
