A Review of the Modeling Approaches for the Lightning M-Component Mode of Charge Transfer

Abstract

This paper presents a review of lightning M-component models. M-component models are classified into two main categories: (i) the guided-wave M-component model and its extensions and (ii) nonlinear M-component models. Other models and assumptions, in which the transient processes along the channel are not explicitly considered, are discussed separately. A discussion on the ability of the M-component models to reproduce the radiated electric fields of M-components is presented.
