Abstract

Nowadays the methods of design, planning and managing of integrated energetic systems which allow an overall view of all possibilities are still embryonic. However, this first phase of the design is crucial if we want to aim at a better resources management and at the decrease of energy consumption togheter with reduced pollution. Dealing with energetic energy integrated systems implies dealing with complex systems exploiting the synergy between the various components (for example the thermal energy of a diesel engine produced during the night is valorised by the Rankine Organic Cycle of a solar thermal plant). The context of the isolated communities further increases the difficulties and the needs for a more rational energy use considering the long distance of transportation linked to the supply of fossil fuels. These sites are often located in very precarious environments, with limited or inexistent resources, and with additional requirements for desalination (arid zones). ...........

Solar thermal energy
Solar thermal energy (STE) is a form of energy and a technology for harnessing solar energy to generate thermal energy for use in industry, and in the residential and commercial sectors. Solar thermal collectors are classified by the United States Energy Information Administration as low-, medium-, or high-temperature collectors. Low-temperature collectors are generally unglazed and used to heat swimming pools or to heat ventilation air. Medium-temperature collectors are also usually flat plates but are used for heating water or air for residential and commercial use.
Thermal energy storage
Thermal energy storage (TES) is achieved with widely different technologies. Depending on the specific technology, it allows excess thermal energy to be stored and used hours, days, months later, at scales ranging from the individual process, building, multiuser-building, district, town, or region. Usage examples are the balancing of energy demand between daytime and nighttime, storing summer heat for winter heating, or winter cold for summer air conditioning (Seasonal thermal energy storage).
Solar thermal collector
A solar thermal collector collects heat by absorbing sunlight. The term "solar collector" commonly refers to a device for solar hot water heating, but may refer to large power generating installations such as solar parabolic troughs and solar towers or non water heating devices such as solar cooker, solar air heaters. Solar thermal collectors are either non-concentrating or concentrating. In non-concentrating collectors, the aperture area (i.e., the area that receives the solar radiation) is roughly the same as the absorber area (i.
