A bipolar filter press-type elec. rechargeable Zn/O2 battery has been developed. Reticulated copper foam served as substrate for the zinc deposit on the anodic side, and La0.6Ca0.4CoO3-catalyzed bifunctional oxygen electrodes were used on the cathodic side of the cells. The 100 cm2 unit cell had an open-circuit voltage of 1.4 V (O2) in moderately alk. electrolyte. The open-circuit voltage and the peak power measured for a stack contg. seven cells were .apprx.10 V and .apprx.90 W, resp. The current-potential behavior was detd. as a function of the no. of bipolar cells, and the max. discharge capacity was detd. at different discharge rates. [on SciFinder (R)]
