The Laboratory of Nanobiotechnology (LNB) at EPFL focuses on the interface of nanotechnology and protein engineering to develop nanobionic devices for biosensing and light-harvesting applications. By exploiting the synergy between these fields, the LNB engineers a new generation of nano-bionic devices, including biosensors based on single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) for in vivo applications and biological photovoltaics for solar energy conversion. The LNB's research also involves the commercial development of protein-based constructs for light-harvesting and biosensing applications, overcoming protein instabilities through inorganic nanomaterials with enhanced photophysical and electronic properties.
