The PDE Chair of Partial Differential Equations at EPFL, led by Professor Joachim Krieger, focuses on researching nonlinear partial differential equations, particularly in mathematical physics and geometric wave equations. The group aims to rigorously prove theorems about the existence of solutions without data restrictions and analyze the asymptotic features of these solutions. Motivated by numerical experiments conducted by physicists, the unit investigates stability and instability of soliton type solutions, as well as the precise blow-up dynamics of solutions. The research also includes the development of novel tools in Harmonic Analysis useful for PDE and the analysis of nonlinear problems in Mathematical Physics, such as Einstein's or Yang Mills equations.
