The Laboratory of Photonic Systems (PHOSL) at EPFL focuses on the study of optical nonlinear processes in various waveguides, including silica step index fibers and integrated waveguides. Their research aims to design efficient devices for all-optical systems and explore novel waveguiding structures for enhanced nonlinear properties. PHOSL's work includes manipulating light through linear nonlinear optical interactions, exploiting material properties for spectral compatibility, and collaborating with industries for device fabrication. They are known for their expertise in nonlinear waveguide optics, microresonators, and light generation and manipulation. PHOSL's research has led to advancements in supercontinuum generation, four-wave mixing, and parametric amplification, as well as the development of compact laser sources for pollution detection and mid-infrared gas spectroscopy.
