Chair of Mathematical Statistics
ChairThe Department of Mathematical Statistics, chaired by Victor Panaretos, focuses on probability modeling and statistical inference for functional and geometrical data in natural sciences. Emphasizing biophysics, mathematical biology, and high energy physics, research areas include functional data analysis, shape theory, statistical inverse problems, and inference for stochastic processes. Methodological work is connected to data analysis in cryo-electron microscopy, molecular dynamics, protein matching, epidemiology, and fundamental particle detection, supported by grants from the Swiss National Science Foundation and the European Research Council.
