Federico Matteini
Federico pursued his Bachelor in Material Science at Universita' di Genova (Italy) in 2009. He spent one year at the Dublin Institute of Technology (Ireland), as exchange student in the frame of the EU Erasmus Lifelong Learning Programme. In 2011 he obtained a Master degree in Chemical Engineering as a joint study agreement between Universita' di Bologna (Italy), Universidad Politecnica de Valencia (Spain) and KTH Stokholm (Sweden), in the frame of the Erasmus Mundus Master Courses (IMMSSET). He carried on his master thesis’s project at Rice University (Houston, Texas). After a short period as intern at DSM Material Science Center (the Netherlands), he joined the Laboratory of Semiconductor Materials of Prof. Fontcuberta i Morral at EPFL (Switzerland). During his PhD he was awarded of a DocMobility grant to pursue his research at MIT, in the lab of Prof. W.C. Carter. Graduated in 2016, he moved to fastree3D (3D vision startup) as product marketing manager to define target markets, associated strategy and positioning. In 2018 he joined the large enterprises team at the Vice Presidency for Innovation as business developer.
Ursula Oesterle
Ursula Oesterle joint the EPFL as Vice President for Innovation on March 1st 2021. She holds a PhD in physics from EPFL and a master's degree in physics and chemistry from ETH Zurich. Prior to that, Ursula spent 20 years in Silicon Valley and Asia working in open innovation and with start-ups. First, she worked in the telecom-IT industry and then in Life Science. She led digital innovation initiatives and corporate transformation programs. Ursula is also an entrepreneur and co-founded The Mixing Bowl, whose mission is to promote IT innovation in food and agriculture industry through a business-driven dialogue between existing industry players, startups, investors and other food innovators. She co-founded Corporate Innovators Huddle, a forum for sharing information and best practices on various aspects of innovation in large corporations. LinkedIn
Ivan Furfaro
Ivan Furfaro received his Master Degree in Biomedical Engineering in Italy at Politecnico di Torino, in 2015. He did his Master Thesis in Switzerland at EPFL in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), by validating and implementing a new technique to decrease power consumption and size for EMG acquisition systems. In 2016 he started working in the Translational Neural Engineering Lab - EPFL as scientific assistant to design and develop sensorized wearable system for rehabilitation purposes. In the same year he started approaching the world of entrepreneurship, by developing innovative ideas in different fields, which led him to win different prizes, as the international EUROBIKE award in 2018 with his startup, Spearoad. He continued to follow his interest and passion for interdisciplinary research and for biomedical applications, and he currently works as biomedical engineer in the Soft BioElectronic Interface Lab - EPFL, where he takes care of the electro-mechanical assessments and validation for new stretchable materials and applications developed in the lab.
